2023 will go down in history as one of the best years ever for new game releases, but 2024 and beyond has also a solid lineup of games to look forward to on PlayStation. The year ahead will see a number of big sequels and original adventures arrive, starting with the return of Tekken, supervillain action from Batman: Arkham developer Rocksteady, and a tour of Midgar in the Final Fantasy 7 franchise. So far, we have confirmed release dates for several video games, tentative launch windows for other games, and a rough idea of when several other highly anticipated games will arrive.

While you're waiting for those new releases, you can also check out GameSpot's features on the best RPGs for PS4 and PS5, the best free PS5 games to play right now, and the must-play PS5 titles that are currently available.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered - January 19

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is more than just the hit PS4 game with an updated coat of paint, as developer Naughty Dog has added several new features to the game for its PS5 release. Enhanced visuals, a Guitar Free Play mode, and a speedrun mode are all welcome extras, but the big draw here is a new roguelike survival mode called No Return. You’ll be able to choose from a roster of several familiar characters, start a run, and slowly power up as the Clicker threat becomes steadily deadlier. Like other takes on the genre, it's a mode where you'll probably die, die, and die again before you get that perfect run.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - January 24

There was plenty of Like a Dragon--formerly Yakuza--fun to be had in 2023, but this year, the next mainline entry in the series could be its most ambitious one yet. A return to the RPG-inspired gameplay of 2020's Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Infinite Wealth crosses the border into Hawaii, polishes up its turn-based gameplay with welcome tweaks, offers a wide selection of diversions, and it could be the best Animal Crossing game of the year.

Tekken 8 - January 26

Here comes a new challenger! After a one-two punch of big-name fighting game releases in the form of Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, Tekken 8 is stepping into the ring for some digital fisticuffs. The Mishima saga continues in this new chapter, as Tekken 8 features a stacked roster, aggressive gameplay mechanics through the new Heat system, and gorgeous graphics that'll deliver a visual haymaker to your eyes.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - February 2

After a lengthy delay, developer Rocksteady is finally ready to walk on the darker side of the DC Universe with its next game, an action-packed live-service adventure starring a motley crew of expendable supervillains tasked with eliminating Earth's greatest heroes. A more radical departure from the Arkham games, Suicide Squad gives you plenty of guns, multiple characters to swap between as you explore Metropolis, and a wide selection of customization options for your team of misfits.

Helldivers 2 - February 8

A third-person squad shooter that's very inspired by Starship Troopers, Helldivers 2 throws you into the battlefield of an intergalactic conflict. The enemies are relentless and limitless, the planetary conditions are hostile at best, and there's no shortage of propaganda to convince you to do your part in the war, but on the plus side, you'll get to wield all manner of high-tech weapons as you freedom to other worlds. Just keep an eye out for friendly fire in case some of your allies get a little too gung-ho with excitement. Would you like to inquire about additional details?

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered - February 14

We're fast approaching the 30th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise, and what better way to celebrate decades of relic hunting than with a return to the original trilogy of games? Tomb Raider I, II, and III Remastered arrives on Valentine's Day, and alongside its updated visuals, this definitive package also includes all expansions and secret levels.

Skull and Bones - February 16

We can't believe it, but it's finally happening: Skull and Bones is coming out in 2024. After a very long voyage across choppy development waters, Ubisoft's pirate-themed live-service game sails into view in February. It's a game that gives you all the tools to live the ultimate pirate fantasy, drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of piracy to create a swashbuckling open-sea adventure.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - February 28

Four years after Square Enix officially unveiled the first chapter in its remake of the Final Fantasy 7 saga, the story continues in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The middle chapter of this grand trilogy, Rebirth is teasing an even bigger deviation from the story of the original Final Fantasy 7, with more surprises and new lands to explore. Zack is back in some of the new story content, new party members will debut, and we're really hoping that the game doesn't break our hearts when we get to the Forgotten Capital.

Pacific Drive - February 22

We've seen a ton of games over the years where you find yourself stuck in a creepy world full of nightmarish creatures waiting to strike, but Pacific Drive puts a new spin on that concept by making you experience atmospheric dread from inside your trusty car. A first-person driving game, Pacific Drive has escaped the traffic jam of 2023 and is set in the spooky Olympic Exclusion Zone: a hub of freak weather conditions and assorted nastiness that you'll encounter while maintaining your station wagon for the rough roads ahead.

Unicorn Overlord - March 8

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Odin Sphere developer Vanillaware is back with a new game in 2024, an elegant and tactical fantasy-RPG that could be a sleeper hit. Visually stunning, Unicorn Overlord tasks you with assembling a grand army from dozens of unique characters, growing your legend across the realms, and engaging in combat that has a distinct Vanillaware flair to its design.

Alone in the Dark - March 20

You can't keep a good horror franchise down for long, and at long last, Alone in the Dark is making a comeback this year. Flexing some star power by casting actors Jodie Comer and David Harbour as protagonists Emily Hartwood and detective Edward Carnby, respectively, players will explore the haunted Derceto hospital and the sinister secrets lurking within its walls.

Rise of the Ronin - March 22

Team Ninja's next release, Rise of the Ronin, is shaping up to be a sharp game of feudal action. Taking place during the final years of the Edo era, this open-world RPG is a mix of the signature fast-paced action that defined games like Ninja Gaiden and Nioh, warring factions, and tough choices that you'll be forced to make as you choose a side in the historical conflicts that shaped Japan. Team Ninja aims to deliver a stylish game for players to enjoy--just look at that fancy scarf technology!--but it's also working to ensure that the combat is both deep and accessible for anyone looking to experience this samurai showdown.

Dragon's Dogma 2 - May 22

At long last, Capcom's beloved fantasy game Dragon's Dogma is getting a sequel in 2024. Dragon's Dogma 2 features a much larger world to explore, monsters to slay, and various vocations to master as you make your way across the fantasy landscape. Set in a parallel world version of the first game, the land of Gransys has familiar locations to explore alongside all-new regions and kingdoms. The novel Pawn system is also returning in this sequel, allowing you to create NPC companions who can aid you in your adventures.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape - June 4

The Final Shape marks the end of a decade-long storyline in the Destiny universe, and expectations are high for Bungie to deliver a fitting finale to the Light and Darkness saga. Delayed to June, The Final Shape will take players into the heart of the enigmatic Traveler, add new Super abilities for all three Guardian subclasses, and will see the fan-favorite character Cayde-6 resurrected. Amidst a turbulent time for Bungie that has seen dozens of employees laid off and allegations of poor leadership, this expansion could be the make-or-break moment for the studio.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail - Summer 2024

The future of Final Fantasy 14 looks bright, as the game's next expansion Dawntrail is set to be released in Summer 2024. The marquee features in this expansion are the new job classes, as players can use magical artwork to unleash creative anarchy as the Pictomancer or they can focus on close-range combat with the flexible new Viper class. Fans can also look forward to Final Fantasy 16 and Fall Guys crossovers, an increase to the character level cap, new dungeons, and much more.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater - 2024

Long considered to be the definitive Metal Gear Solid game, this remake of the PS2 classic returns to the Cold War origins of the journey that transformed the legendary soldier Snake into Big Boss. Featuring a handsome audio-visual upgrade alongside updated stealth-action gameplay, Metal Gear Solid Delta is one of the more highly anticipated remakes of the year. And yes, that iconic theme song has been kept intact.

Foamstars

It might look like a Splatoon clone at first glance, but Foamstars has some squeaky-clean ideas within its 4v4 hero-shooter game structure. The idea is simple as you unload a barrage of soapy suds on the battlefield and attempt to clinch victory through a bubbly blitzkrieg. Foam attacks can be used for offense and tactical advantages, each character has unique weapons and attacks, and we're wondering if it's not too late to change the game's name to Overwash.

Star Wars Outlaws

2023 was a pretty great year for Star Wars thanks to EA's release of Jedi: Survivor, and this year, it's Ubisoft's turn to visit a galaxy far (far!) away. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Outlaws puts you in the scoundrel boots of Kay Vess as she seeks to pull off the heist of the century. The Star Wars underworld has rarely been explored, and as a rogue who doesn't have access to Jedi powers, Vess will have to use her wits to get out of dangerous situations. If diplomacy fails, she can always rely on her blaster to shoot first and ask questions later in this open-worlds Star Wars game.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Originally meant to launch in 2023, you'll have to wait until September before you can smite the heretical Tyranid swarms in the name of the Emperor. A direct sequel to the 2010 game, Space Marine 2 is being developed by Saber Interactive and is aiming to retain the signature action of the first game as you combine violent warfare with quick-thinking tactics on the battlefield.

Black Myth Wukong

Details on Black Myth Wukong have been scarce since the Souls-like game was first revealed several years ago, but what is known is that it looks like an exhilarating adaptation of Chinese mythology. As the Monkey King Sun Wukong, players will take on titanic enemies and legions of cannon fodder foes while wielding an arsenal of magical weapons along the way.

Marvel's Wolverine

It has been more than a decade since Wolverine popped his adamantium claws in a solo video game, and at long last, Canada's finest export is getting ready to step into the spotlight once again. Developed by Spider-Man studio Insomniac, details on the game have been kept tightly under wraps--or stolen by brazen hackers before being released online--but Insomniac says that Marvel fans can expect a dark and mature storyline starring the feral mutant.

Death Stranding 2

Details on Death Stranding 2 are slim right now, but if it's anything like the previous game, expect this latest title from Hideo Kojima's studio to be weird and wild. First revealed in 2022, it looks like a new extinction-level event is on the horizon, one born from Kojima's experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several familiar faces will return for Death Stranding 2, alongside new characters played by Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna.

Fairgame$

The first game from Jade Raymond's Haven Studio, Fairgame$ is billed as a fresh and modern take on the heist genre as players rob from the ultra-rich in an effort to rebalance the scales of society. Beyond a slick CG trailer, very little is known about the competitive multiplayer game so far, but teamwork and creative tactics will be the keys to success, according to Haven.

Silent Hill 2

Blair Witch and Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team has its work cut out for it with its Silent Hill 2 remake, as this unnerving psychological-horror game is still considered to be a masterclass in storytelling. Once again taking on the role of James Sunderland as he confronts the ghosts of his past in the eerie town of Silent Hill, players will have to investigate a seemingly impossible mystery, face off against twisted monsters, and wrestle with their past sins in this remake of the 2001 classic.

GTA 6 - 2025

Few games can dominate discourse like Grand Theft Auto, and when the first official look at the game debuted in late 2023, Rockstar practically took over the internet with a single trailer. Returning to the sunny shores of Vice City--and the state of Leonida--Rockstar is keeping additional details on the game a secret for now, but there are still numerous secrets, nods to previous games, and other tantalizing threads to explore in the first trailer ahead of the game's currently scheduled release date of 2025.
