Your Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader companions aren't just there for flavor and fluff. They're your most vaunted allies, aiding you in your quest to vanquish the enemies of the Imperium--technically, some of them are part of that xenos bunch, too. Sanctioned to conduct operations and engage in trade with even the most questionable of personages in the galaxy, it's up to you to lead a capable force like no other. Here's our guide on how to recruit all companions in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

Note that are 10 recruitable companions in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. You can have all of them in your group by the time you reach the game's fourth act. A few do need a bit more convincing than usual. Thankfully, the steps aren't as convoluted as, say, Owlcat Games' previous offering, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Remember the unlock requirements for both Trever and Queen Galfrey?

It also bears mentioning that you're presented with multiple opportunities to either get rid of or outright kill your companions. We really hope you avoid doing that. As an aside, we also suggest checking our guides on the best companions/companion tier list and companion romance. The former helps you choose which ones to keep in your active squad, and the latter is for those who want to be more than buddies. Lastly, please be reminded that our Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader companion recruitment guide contains spoilers.

Abelard

  • Location: Prologue - Voidship
  • Homeworld: Death World
  • Origin: Navy Officer
  • Archetype: Warrior

Abelard is the Rogue Trader's Seneschal and the first companion to join you in the campaign. You really can't miss him since he's part of the tutorial. We suggest building him into a sturdy tank who can take the brunt of the damage.

Idira

  • Location: Prologue - Voidship
  • Homeworld: Death World
  • Origin: Sanctioned Psyker
  • Archetype: Operative

Shortly after meeting up with Abelard, you'll encounter Idira, a Sanctioned Psyker. She's initially equipped with a staff that can shoot chain lightning, making her a powerful spellcaster. Just watch out for instances when the predations of the Warp become too much, as that can cause deadly accidents.

Sister Argenta

  • Location: Prologue - Voidship
  • Homeworld: Death World
  • Origin: Ministorum Priest
  • Archetype: Soldier

Argenta is a Battle Sister, a devout champion of the Adepta Sororitas. You'll meet her just after Idira joins your group. Armored by her unwavering faith in the Emperor, Argenta uses the bolter, melta, and flamer to lay waste to the enemies of mankind. She should be in your frontline, ready to unleash devastating firepower.

Cassia

  • Location: Act 1 - Eurac V
  • Homeworld: N/A
  • Origin: Navigator
  • Archetype: Officer

Cassia is a unique recruitable companion in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. You'll find her on Eurac V as part of a mission called Secrets of the Navis Nobilite, which also happens to have a tricky laboratory puzzle. Upon gaining the control rod, you have the option to side with either Felek Orsellio or Theobald Orsellio. Regardless of your choice, make sure that you ask Cassia to join your voidship as its new Navigator.

Pasqal

  • Location: Act 1 - Rykad Minoris Starport
  • Homeworld: Death World
  • Origin: Adeptus Mechanicus/Part-Machine
  • Archetype: Operative

Speaking of unique companions, Pasqal certainly belongs in that category. As an Adeptus Mechanicus Tech-Priest, he's got higher Logic and Tech-Use stats than most teammates. You'll encounter him while doing the main quest on Rykad Minoris. He'll speak to a tank's Machine Spirit to blow up a few rebels, and you should be able to recruit him from there.

Heinrix

  • Location: Act 1 - Rykad Minoris Electrodynamic Cenobium
  • Homeworld: Death World
  • Origin: Sanctioned Psyker
  • Archetype: Warrior

After completing the main quest on Rykad Minoris, you'll notice that another location called the Electrodynamic Cenobium has become available. Enter the facility and check the room to the left. Inside, you'll find Heinrix, a Sanctioned Psyker who's also a member of the Inquisition.

Jae

  • Location: Act 2 - Footfall
  • Homeworld: Death World
  • Origin: Cold Trader
  • Archetype: Officer

Footfall is a world that you'll get to visit early on in Act 2. When you talk to the governor, Vladaym Tocara, you'll also notice Jae in the same manor. After this encounter, head to the bar in the northern part of Footfall Shadow Quarters. Inside, Jae will give you a proposition to help her and her team of smugglers.

Accept Jae's proposal and go to the warehouse in the eastern alley of the Shadow Quarters. Once you've defeated the hostiles therein, you can have Jae tag along. As an aside, note that there are a few secrets to discover on the planet of Footfall, such as the Dock Puzzle and Hidden Caches.

Yrliet

  • Location: Act 2 - Janus
  • Homeworld: Craftworld Crudarach/Voidborn
  • Origin: Aeldari
  • Archetype: Operative

Yrliet is an Aeldari (i.e. Eldar or space elf). Naturally, it's not easy for her to trust humans or "mon-keigh." She's currently the protector of Janus' governor. After the initial encounter against a few rebels, have a chat with the governor. Then, go to the gazebo outside the manor and ask Yrliet to join your team.

Ulfar

  • Location: Act 3 - Commorragh Anatomical Opera
  • Homeworld: N/A
  • Origin: Adeptus Astartes/Space Wolves
  • Archetype: Soldier

Ever wonder what it's like to have a Space Marine teammate? Well, there's one recruitable companion in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader that's an Adeptus Astartes. He's none other than Ulfar of the Space Wolves.

Here's what you need to do to recruit Ulfar:

  • Win the first arena battle in Act 3 so you can gain access to Commorragh's Anatomical Opera. Inside, you'll find Ulfar imprisoned. Ask for his help so you can begin the process of freeing him.
  • Next, talk to Tervantias the Archmachinator, the Haemonculus who's also in charge of the Anatomical Opera. Reply with: "I require a moment of your precious time and I am willing to pay for it."
  • You'll need at least one monster part that can be traded:
    • You can find some monster parts from the beasts you've slain in the arena. There are also several from various lootable objects in Commorragh. Some of these have very difficult skill checks, so make sure you do a quicksave beforehand and that you've found new or lost gear pieces already.
    • Alternatively, if you've been reunited with Yrliet and she's remorseful for her actions, she'll volunteer to become an experiment. As far as we can tell, this just leads to a short scene and dialogue (no lingering injuries).
  • Once Tervantias accepts, choose: "I would like to take the Space Marine you keep in a cage." The next replies should be:
    • "With him, I would definitely succeed. It would further both of our interests."
    • "Sure the loss of some mon-keigh could never impede the work of a mind as great as yours."

Tervantias should give you the Bone Key that unlocks Ulfar's cell. Talk to the Space Marine once more and persuade him to join up. In our case, our character simply boasted about being a Rogue Trader, which caused Ulfar to accept. Oh, and don't forget to pick up his unique gear pieces from the chest next to his cage.

Marazhai

  • Location: Act 3 - Commorragh Anatomical Opera and Arena
  • Homeworld: Commorragh
  • Origin: Drukhari
  • Archetype: Warrior

Similar to Ulfar, you'll have the opportunity to recruit Marazhai in Commorragh's Anatomical Opera. Here's the gist:

  • After winning an arena match, you're told to prepare for the upcoming battle. Return to the Anatomical Opera and check the raised platform behind Tervantias the Archmachinator. You'll notice Marazhai peering at you.
  • Select the following responses:
    • [Snap the Elucidator shut and address Marazhai]: "I want to talk to you."
    • " I saw what happened at the trial. You were tricked."
    • "You are trapped. I am trapped. We could help each other."
    • "Let's make a deal: you help me take out my enemies, and I shall help you take out yours."

Make your way to the arena for the next battle. After clearing a couple of waves, Marazhai and his cohorts will appear. There are several dialogue options here, but you should only choose: [Look Marazhai in the eye] "My offer still stands. Will you consider switching sides?"

Doing the above will make Marazhai an allied NPC for this battle, so make sure he survives. He can then be found in The Pit, and you should agree to his plan if you want him in your party. Bear in mind that other teammates want him dead, so try to avoid any responses that would lead to his untimely demise.

In any case, these are the steps to recruit all companions in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Now that you know where to gather your allies, we also suggest checking our guides on the best companions/companion tier list and companion romance.

Lastly, there are certainly more discoveries to be made as you continue your journey in the Koronus Expanse, so don't forget to visit our Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader guides hub.
