Apex Legends Heirloom Weapon Sets: All Weapons, Recolors, And Bonus Cosmetics

Players can currently choose from over 20 different Heirloom Sets.

Apex Legends has something of a reputation for pricey cosmetics, with Legendary skins costing a whopping 1,800 Apex Coins ($18 USD). Although some players may balk at the price tag, it's hard to deny that Apex's higher-tier cosmetics are also high-quality, utilizing creative, eye-catching designs that make it easy to feel truly legendary when donning them. But Legendary skins are far from the rarest--or most sought-after--items in the game. That title belongs to Mythic cosmetics, which include Prestige Skins and the highly-coveted melee weapons known as Heirloom Weapons.

Though they are purely cosmetic and have no effect on damage output, Heirloom Weapons are detailed and attention-grabbing, and the release of a new Heirloom Set almost always results in excitement from the playerbase. Fans of Apex Legends can often be found speculating on which legend will receive the next Heirloom Weapon, trying to figure out what it will look like, and even designing their own concepts for future Heirloom Weapons. But because Heirloom Sets are so rare and expensive, players will certainly want to look before they leap, lest they shell out cash for one of these rare cosmetics only to be disappointed by it. When it comes to Heirlooms, there's no real way to try before you buy, but we've still got you covered--keep reading for a closer look at every item included in each legend's Heirloom Set, along with info on rare weapon inspection animations, Heirloom Weapon recolors, and tips on obtaining the Heirloom Set of your dreams without spending a fortune.

Heirloom Shards & unlocking cosmetics

Heirloom Shards are the cheapest way to unlock an Heirloom Weapon, but not necessarily the easiest way to get ahold of one.

Heirloom Sets can be obtained in one of two ways: Spending $168 USD to buy every single item in a Collection Event, or purchasing the Heirloom Weapon for 150 Heirloom Shards. A new Heirloom Set releases alongside each Collection Event, meaning players can only purchase that specific weapon via the event (though the game's annual anniversary event often includes Heirloom Shards as a reward instead of a specific Heirloom Weapon). But both the Collection Event route and the Heirloom Shard route have their pros and cons.

Collection Events

The cheapest way to go about purchasing all 24 cosmetic items included in a Collection Event is by opening Event Packs, special Apex Packs that cost $7 each. As mentioned above, purchasing all 24 Collection Event items via Event Packs will set you back $168, but there's a way to game the system a bit: Crafting Metals.

Each Collection Event features 12 Epic-tier cosmetics that can be purchased individually for 1,000 Apex Coins ($10 USD) and 12 Legendary-tier cosmetics that can be purchased individually for 1,800 Apex Coins ($18 USD). But these items can also be obtained via Crafting Metals, an in-game currency that can only be gained by opening standard Apex Packs ($1 USD each) or completing a Collection Event's free reward track. Legendary-tier Collection Event items can be unlocked for 2,400 Crafting Metals, and Epic-tier items require 800 Crafting Metals.

Because each $7 Event Pack is guaranteed to include one item from the current Collection Event (with no duplicate items), the cheapest way to obtain an Heirloom Weapon from a Collection Event is by using Crafting Metals to unlock as many of the event's Epic-tier cosmetics as possible. If you've managed to save up 9,600 Crafting Metals, you'll be able to craft all 12 Epic-tier cosmetics, meaning that any Event Packs you open after unlocking the Epic-tier items will be guaranteed to include one of the event's Legendary-tier cosmetics. With all 12 Epic-tier cosmetics unlocked, you'll only need to purchase 12 of the $7 Event Packs to complete the collection, reducing the total cost to unlock the event's Heirloom Set from $168 USD to $84 USD. If you have more than 9,600 Crafting Metals, you can use them to unlock some of the event's Legendary-tier items as well, further reducing the amount you'll need to spend to unlock the Heirloom Weapon.

Once a Collection Event ends, the Heirloom Set is moved to the Mythic Store, where it can only be obtained by spending 150 Heirloom Shards.

Heirloom Shards

Unlike the Collection Event method, which will unlock one specific legend's weapon, Heirloom Shards allow players to choose any Heirloom Weapon they want, which is great for anyone who may have missed out on an opportunity to get one via a Collection Event. But there's one major downside to Heirloom Shards: They are incredibly rare, and they cannot be purchased or gifted to other players.

With the exception of some anniversary Collection Events, the only way to get your hands on a set of Heirloom Shards is by opening standard $1 Apex Packs, and the odds are incredibly low. Players are guaranteed to get at least one set of 150 Heirloom Shards (enough to buy an Heirloom) for every 500 Apex Packs they open, meaning each Apex Pack has a 0.2% chance of producing a set of Heirloom Shards. Some players have gotten Heirloom Shards from their very first Apex Pack, others haven't received it until their 500th Apex Pack.

But on the bright side, players don't necessarily have to spend any money to get their hands on an Apex Pack. They're included in the game's premium battle pass each season (though the pass itself does cost $9.50 USD), and can also be obtained by completing event challenges during Collection Events. In addition to premium cosmetics, each Collection Event also features a free reward track that almost always includes an Apex Pack or two. Respawn has also been known to hand out a few free packs at other times, too--often during the holidays or the annual anniversary event. Keeping an eye on the official Apex Legends Twitter account is a good idea, since players can occasionally earn free Apex Packs from participating in certain Apex-related activities, like watching certain Apex streamers on Twitch. These opportunities are almost always announced on Twitter.

Apex Packs can also be obtained en masse and at a discount on a semi-regular basis by purchasing Apex Pack bundles, which often appear in the in-game store and usually include a cosmetic item or two, plus anywhere from 2 to 100 Apex Packs.

Obtaining Heirloom Shards with Apex Packs can be frustrating, especially since getting the Heirloom Shards can cost anywhere from $0 (from opening a free Apex Pack) to $500 (for the statistically unlucky). But the Heirloom Shard route also gives players the option to choose any Heirloom they want. Still, if there's a specific Heirloom Weapon you're dying to get your hands on, you're better off obtaining it via a Collection Event rather than waiting for it to enter the Mythic Store and hoping you get lucky with Apex Packs/Heirloom Shards.

Regardless of how you go about getting those elusive Heirloom Shards, what really matters is what you do with them. Below, you'll find a gallery that provides an item-by-item breakdown of every Heirloom Set's contents, including the two Mythic-tier, non-Heirloom Weapon cosmetic items included in each set. Additionally, you'll get a closer look at every Heirloom's rarest inspection/equip animations and some details on the lore behind each weapon to help ensure you don't experience any buyer's remorse once you've spent those precious Heirloom Shards.

Wraith: Hope's Dusk

Hope's Dusk was Apex's first-ever Heirloom Weapon.

Hope's Dusk is one of two Heirlooms belonging to Wraith, and was the first Heirloom to appear in the game. Initially, opening a lucky Apex Pack would instantly give players access to this kunai knife Heirloom, as Heirloom Shards didn't yet exist, and no other legends had Heirloom Weapons until Bloodhound received theirs in August 2019.

In addition to the weapon itself, the Hope's Dusk Heirloom Set also includes the following Mythic-tier items:

  • Fearless Wraith banner pose
  • "Come find me" Wraith intro quip

Hope's Dusk didn't have many special animations when it was first released, but received a little TLC around the same time the re-skinned Hope's Dawn Heirloom Set was released during the Imperial Guard Collection Event in March 2023. Now, when players choose to inspect the weapon in-game, one of several unique animations will play. One sees the void-hopping amnesiac pull out her personnel file from her time as a scientist, featuring a photo of herself and her best friend, Wattson, while a different animation results in an irritating fly making a brief appearance before Wraith slices it in half mid-flight.

But one of the rarest animations features a callback to Wraith's episode of Stories From The Outlands, entitled Voidwalker. The animated short revealed that the Wraith we know isn't from this dimension, and actually ended up switching places with another version of herself, a person referred to as Voidwalker. Voidwalker gave Wraith her Heirloom Weapon and set her on the path to becoming a legend, and the Hope's Dusk Heirloom Set includes a unique animation that references Wraith's interdimensional twin. The animation will appear very rarely, and only when putting one's gun away to equip the knife. In it, Voidwalker's arm appears on the right side of the screen, putting the kunai knife in Wraith's hand and closing her fingers around it.

Wraith: Hope's Dawn

Hope's Dawn was the first Heirloom Weapon to be reskinned and re-released.

Released in early 2023, the Hope's Dawn Heirloom Set features the same kunai knife with some minor changes, including a red color scheme and the word "Hope" stamped into the knife's handle where the original Heirloom reads "Quieto." Hope is a reference to Wraith's middle name, which she only uncovered with the help of Mirage.

The Hope's Dawn Heirloom Set also includes:

  • Hope's Blossom Wraith banner frame
  • Practice Makes Perfect Wraith emote

Hope's Dawn appears to feature the exact same animations as Hope's Dusk, including the rare Voidwalker Easter egg.

Bloodhound: Raven's Bite

Similar to Wraith's kunai knife, Bloodhound's axe has heavy ties to their past.

Bloodhound's Raven's Bite Heirloom Set features a glowing red axe--the same one Bloodhound used to avenge their uncle's death in Stories From The Outlands: The Old Ways.

The Raven's Bite Heirloom set also includes:

  • Glory Hound Bloodhound banner pose
  • "Honor those who've risen" intro quip

The weapon's unique animations include Bloodhound checking the axe's blade for sharpness, petting the crow carved into the weapon, and admiring the tassel charm attached to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, as one of the earliest Heirlooms to appear in the game, Raven's Bite doesn't have many animations. But similar to Wraith's kunai knife, the animations for Bloodhound's axe are likely to get an update in the future when Respawn releases the recolored version of the weapon.

Lifeline: Shock Sticks

Lifeline's Heirloom doubles as an on-the-go defibrillator.

Lifeline's Shock Sticks Heirloom Weapon consists of two electrified drumsticks, a reference to the cheeky medic's love of music and the years she spent touring with her band, The Flyer Liars. Some of Lifeline's music can be heard in her episode of Stories From The Outlands, with voice actress Mela Lee showing off her talented singing voice.

The Shock Sticks Heirloom Set also includes:

  • Shock Sticks Lifeline banner pose
  • "Get wrecked" Lifeline intro quip

Lifeline's Shock Sticks have a number of unique animations, many of which show off Lifeline's excellent hand-eye coordination as she spins, flips, and catches the sticks. She can also be seen "air-drumming" and retracting the electrified end of the drumsticks, almost as if they were lightsabers.

Pathfinder: Boxing Gloves

The emojis on the back of each glove change, just like the one on Pathfinder's chest.

Pathfinder's Boxing Gloves Heirloom Set is exactly what it sounds like, featuring a pair of boxing gloves with ties to a friend from the MRVN's past. Like Pathfinder's chest, the gloves also have screens on them that display emojis when in use.

The Boxing Gloves Heirloom Set also includes:

  • Lights Out Pathfinder banner pose
  • "Really amazing moves" Pathfinder kill quip

Exclusive animations feature Pathfinder shadowboxing, accidentally firing one of his gloves out of its socket like a sort of jack-in-the-box, and getting in a fist fight with Bloodhound's fowl familiar, Artur the raven.

Octane: Butterfly Knife

Octane's Heirloom has a dark secret.

As far as lore goes, Octane's Butterfly Knife is easily one of the darkest Heirloom Weapons in the game. Octane is hooked on Stim, a highly addictive stimulant drug produced by Silva Pharmaceuticals--Octane's family business. His grandfather, Torres Silva, recently used Octane to get control of The Mercenary Syndicate (and, by extension, the Apex Games themselves), but once he had what he wanted, he cast his grandson aside like a useless trinket. Historically, Torres has judged Octane for his drug use, but also encouraged and enabled it.

The Butterfly Knife Heirloom Set also includes:

  • Spin And Flick Octane banner pose
  • "Run fast, hit fast, win fast" Octane intro quip

Hidden within Octane's Butterfly Knife is a syringe full of bright-green liquid Stim, and some of Octane's Heirloom animations feature him using the knife to inject the drug. He can also be seen fidgeting with it, spinning it around in his fingers, and performing other risky stunts.

Mirage: Too Much Witt

The lore behind Mirage's trophy remains a mystery, but it doesn't make the weapon any less hilarious.

Mirage's Too Much Witt Heirloom Weapon consists of a golden trophy that the trickster evidently carries on his person at all times. The trophy features a small statue of himself, along with a plaque that reads, "Best Competitor In A Battle Royale," with a smaller inscription beneath it that says, "Based on skill, but mostly looks."

It's unclear exactly when and how Mirage got this trophy, but it certainly fits his personality--Mirage can often be seen surrounded by his own merch, from cardboard cut-outs to t-shirts and action figures, Mirage seems to be his own number one fan.

The Too Much Witt Heirloom Set also includes:

  • You Really Love Me Mirage banner pose
  • "Excited to see you all in the ring" Mirage intro quip

When it comes to animations, Mirage's Heirloom has some good ones. He can be seen admiring the trophy before nearly dropping it, lovingly cradling it, and very rarely, he'll pull out his favorite food--a pork chop--to melee and enemy with it.

Caustic: Death Hammer

The story behind Caustic's Heirloom Weapon remains a mystery... for now.

Caustic's Death Hammer Heirloom Set consists of a foreboding looking hammer with a replica of the mad scientist's masked face on one end. Caustic is known for his merciless brutality, so the hammer is an excellent fit thematically, but Respawn has yet to reveal the weapon's backstory or significance. Caustic is a wanted murderer (though his reasons for the killing are currently unknown), so it's possible the Death Hammer is actually the murder weapon he used to kill one of his former colleagues.

The Death Hammer Heirloom Set also includes:

  • Hammer Time Caustic banner pose
  • "I look forward to getting my hands on you" intro quip

The Death Hammer features some interesting animations that depict Caustic calibrating the weapon and pressing some sort of mechanism that appears to release a cloud of his signature Nox Gas into the air. He's also a big fan of coffee, and rarely, when inspecting the weapon, Caustic will summon a cup of coffee and take a sip. Another rare animation features a tiny spider crawling atop the hammer before Caustic flicks it away. This is a reference to the Carthage Spider toxin Caustic uses to both keep his gas barrels full and keep his cancer at bay.

Gibraltar: War Club

Gibraltar's Heirloom pays homage to his roots.

Gibraltar's War Club Heirloom Weapon was given to him by his ex-boyfriend, Nik, and pays homage to Gibraltar's cultural roots. The club itself is actually a Māori weapon known as a patu (meaning "to strike").

Gibraltar's War Club Heirloom Set features two additional items:

  • Like A Rock Gibraltar banner pose
  • "When this is over" intro quip

Gibraltar's Heirloom has quite a few unique animations, including one that sees him pretending to ride a motorcycle and revving the engine. Gibraltar's a big fan of bikes, despite the fact that a motorcycle accident nearly took his life and resulted in the demise of his relationship with Nik. Other animations include one in which he inspects his Gun Shield, making the War Club the only Heirloom with an animation that causes a legend to inspect a piece of tactical gear other than the Heirloom weapon itself.

Bangalore: Cold Steel

Cold Steel may not have the most impressive animations, but it has one hell of a backstory.

Bangalore's Cold Steel Heirloom Set has a lot of history. It's a data knife that originally belonged to Commander Scryer, an IMC Pilot who Bangalore killed with his own data knife after he threatened her brother Newcastle's life. Bangalore took the knife as a trophy, and tied her bottle cap bracelet to the handle. The bottle cap bracelet comes from a long-standing tradition in Bangalore's military-focused family, in which caps from the bottles of Koala Kola her family uses for target practice are made into a bracelet and presented to anyone who's shipping out for the first time, as a sort of good luck charm.

The Cold Steel Heirloom Set also contains the following items:

  • No Gun, No Problem Bangalore banner pose
  • "Hope you're not afraid to get your hands dirty" intro quip

Unfortunately, Bangalore's knife is one of the most underwhelming Heirlooms in the game as far as animations go. She'll give the weapon a once-over, practice some slashing, and will occasionally use only the sheath of the knife as a melee weapon when fighting enemies. But sadly, the cool animations end there.

Revenant: Dead Man's Curve

Revenant's scythe is easily one of the best-animated Heirlooms in the game.

Revenant's Dead Man's Curve Heirloom Set is arguably one of the best in the game. It's also the biggest in size, making Revenant's appearance even more terrifying when facing him in combat. It's not clear how exactly the scythe came to be in Revenant's possession, but there is one interesting detail on it: A Hammond Robotics logo that Revenant has attempted to scratch out with his metal fingers.

The Dead Man's Curve Heirloom Set also includes:

  • No Escape Revenant banner pose
  • "You don't want to see this up close" intro quip

This Heirloom Weapon's inspect/equip animations are phenomenal. Sometimes Revenant seems to summon the scythe from the depths of Hell itself, other times it comes flying into his grip with a wave of his hand. Inspecting the weapon will often result in Revenant dragging a sharp metal claw along the length of the handle, somehow making the scythe's uniquely-crafted blade to fall entirely limp before he jostles the weapon back into its original form.

But perhaps the best animation is an extremely rare one. Occasionally, Revenant will produce a gold medal with a large "H" on it. This is a token he took from the body of one of his victims, Forge, who was slated to join the Apex Games before Revenant murdered him on live television and replaced him as Season 4's debut legend. The "H" stands for Hammond Robotics, a weapons tech powerhouse that sponsored Forge's appearance in the games… and also built Revenant.

Revenant: Death Grip

Revenant's Death Grip Heirloom was the second Heirloom to be re-skinned after Wraith's knife.

Revenant's Death Grip Heirloom Set is the second re-skinned Heirloom weapon to hit the game after Wraith's. It has all of the same animations as Dead Man's Curve, but appears to have a bonus animation that sees him skewering some floating skulls on the end of his scythe. There's also another extremely rare animation that appears to be available only for the Death Grip, in which Revenant pulls a casket full of roses out of nowhere, punching through the wood and retrieving his melee weapon from within.

The Death Grip Heirloom Set also features:

  • Soul Sacrifice Revenant banner frame
  • Fight Your Demons Revenant emote

Rampart: Problem Solver

Rampart's Heirloom Weapon reflects her upbeat attitude and engineering prowess.

Rampart's Problem Solver Heirloom Set features a red wrench she can use to smack her enemies around (or simply upgrade her portable minigun, Sheila). Like Revenant, it's not clear if this wrench was gifted to her by someone or if it's simply a sentimental item from her personal toolbox.

The Problem Solver Heirloom Set also features:

  • Wrench In Your Plan Rampart banner pose
  • "I make things by hand" intro quip

Rampart's Heirloom Weapon features some pretty creative animations. Rampart is almost always chewing bubble gum, and closer inspection of her Problem Solver Heirloom reveals that the wrench has been modified to work as a sort of PEZ dispenser for gumballs. But the rarest animation can only occur when she's breaking down a door with the Heirloom equipped. This animation sees her abandon the wrench in favor of using one of Octane's artificial legs to bash open the door.

Wattson: Energy Reader

Wattson's Heirloom design is likely a nod to the Alien franchise.

Wattson's Energy Reader Heirloom Set features an oscilloscope-esque screen that she uses to track enemies (despite not having this ability in-game). The tracker is very similar to the one used in Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror film, Alien. It's not clear where the weapon came from, but given Wattson's knack for inventing brilliant and useful new combat tools, it's possible that she simply made it herself.

Wattson's Energy Reader Heirloom Set also features the following items:

  • Handled With Care Wattson banner pose
  • "Try as you might, you can't kilowatt... son." intro quip

As for animations, Wattson's Energy Reader has quite a few cute ones, including an animation that sees her "feed" a pixelated, Tamagotchi-style version of Nessie on the Energy Reader's screen. But one of the rarest animations sees her abandon her Energy Reader in favor of pulling out her favorite stuffed Nessie toy, tossing it into the air, and giving it a prolonged, very adorable hug. Wattson grew up on King's Canyon, where the real Nessie lurks beneath the water's surface, so it's likely her childhood on the island played a part in her fondness for Nessie plush toys.

Crypto: Biwon Blade

The Biwon Blade may have been a gift from Ash.

Crypto's Biwon Blade Heirloom Set includes a large sword that can collapse back in on itself for easy stowing. But why does a drone pilot have a sword? It's hard to say for sure, but it's possible the Biwon Blade was given to Crypto by none other than Ash. Ash has always used a sword in combat, and Crypto is secretly working with her to try and uncover more information about The Syndicate, his foster sister Mila, and Ash's past. Shortly after this information was revealed, Crypto received the Biwon Blade. It could be a coincidence, but the timing makes sense.

The Biwon Blade Heirloom Set also features:

  • No Escape Crypto banner pose
  • "I'll find you" intro quip

The Biwon Blade's animations are incredibly detailed, showing off the complicated inner workings of the strange sci-fi sword. But the Biwon Blade holds more than technological secrets--it also serves as the hiding place for a photo of Crypto, his foster sister, Mila, and their adoptive mother Mystik. Mystik's real name is Katerina Ticacek Nox, and she's also Caustic's biological mother. When inspecting the sword, Crypto will sometimes unfurl the photo from its hiding place inside the hilt, taking a good, long look at it and clearly mourning the life and family he used to have.

Valkyrie: Suzaku

The origins of the Suzaku are currently unknown, but Rampart may have had a hand in its creation.

Valkyrie's Suzaku Heirloom Set features an enormous spear with decorative motifs celebrating both her Japanese heritage and her Norse mythology-inspired Apex Games moniker. It's not yet clear how the Suzaku came to be in Valkyrie's possession, but it appears to have a few modifications. Since Valkyrie sought out Rampart to help mod her father's Northstar Titan into a bloodsport-appropriate missile-launching jetpack, it's possible Rampart also modified the spear for her.

The Suzaku Heirloom Set also includes the following items:

  • Angel's Arrival Valkyrie banner pose
  • "This little viper's got her mom's fangs" intro quip

The Suzaku has a variety of animations, including a very amusing one where Valkyrie's frequently voiced desire for ramen is finally fulfilled. But the Suzaku isn't all sunshine and roses--an especially rare animation sees Valkyrie pull out the damaged helmet of her late father, Viper, who was killed in Titanfall 2.

Loba: Garra De Alanza

The name of Loba's Heirloom Weapon is a reference to her late mother, who the folding fan originally belonged to.

Loba's Garra de Alanza Heirloom Set is another one of especially high quality, and it has some pretty deep roots in the game's lore. "Garra de Alanza" is Portuguese for "Alanza's Claw," and Alanza Andrade was Loba's mother. The Heirloom Weapon is a modified replica of a folding fan Alanza carried with her when she was still alive. Loba had the weapon custom-made after stealing back the original fan from an unknown collector, though it's unclear how or why this person got their hands on the fan to begin with.

The Garra de Alanza Heirloom Set also features:

  • Trazer de Volta Loba banner pose
  • "I'm in a class of my own" intro quip

Loba's Heirloom has some truly fantastic animations. She uses the bladed fan to file her nails, and will occasionally pull out one of Revenant's spare heads, viciously vivisecting it in a single swipe. But one of the rarest animations associated with this Heirloom Weapon can only be activated via melee, similar to Mirage's porkchop punch. The rare melee animation sees Loba once again pulling out one of Revenant's robotic skulls before proceeding to bash her opponent in the face with it. There's also a slightly more common animation in which she produces a masquerade mask made to look like a wolf. "Loba" is Portuguese for "she-wolf," which is likely the reason behind the wolf-mask animation.

Seer: Showstoppers

Seer's Showstoppers are sure to give your melee encounters an artistic flair.

Seer's Showstoppers Heirloom Set features a pair of curved, handheld blades that can expand into hook-like dual-wielded weapons. Almost nothing is known about these weapons, including their origin.

The Showstoppers Heirloom Set also includes:

  • Grand Finale Seer banner pose
  • "My heart beats stronger" intro quip

Despite the complete lack of information regarding where Seer's Heirloom came from, the Showstoppers have extremely varied animations. It seems Seer's art comes first even in the midst of battle, as one Heirloom animation shows him pulling out a tablet he's been doodling ideas and sketches on. The images on the tablet vary, but one of the rarest images is a sketch of a (fully-clothed) Loba doing her best "paint me like one of your French girls" pose with a Nessie plush in front of her and "DRESSED TO KILL" scrawled across the top of the image. Loba and Seer have gotten along since he first joined the games, and some of their dialogue lines suggest they've known each other for a while, so it's not too surprising that Loba would volunteer to be his artistic muse.

Ash: Strongest Link

Ash's Heirloom Weapon was a gift from another legend's family member.

Ash's Strongest Link Heirloom Set features a pair of nunchaku with needle-sharp spikes on the end. Interestingly, these deadly custom nunchaku were created and given to Ash by none other than Newton Somers, Horizon's son and Ash's one-time research assistant. Originally, Newton had planned to use them himself, inspired after seeing how skilled Ash was in combat. But after accidentally hitting himself in the face with them--twice--he gifted them to Ash, who was still a human at the time.

Ash's Strongest Link Heirloom Set also features:

  • Killer Skill Ash banner pose
  • "The skill of a Pilot" intro quip

A good portion of Ash's Heirloom Weapon animations simply consist of her flinging it around chaotically and somehow managing not to hit herself in the faceplate. But there are also some special ones, including an animation that sees her retrieve her unnamed pet rat from their home in her hood and feed them a piece of cheese. Even funnier, a rare animation will sometimes play a voicemail from Pathfinder that says, "Ash, it's your friend Pathfinder. When you tried to slice off my leg earlier, I was very surprised. You only missed by 2.35 millimeters." After hearing the message, Ash will groan, "Ugh, utter nonsense."

But perhaps the rarest animation is one in which Ash actually removes her faceplate. When she does this, her human side, Leigh, will say "You won't get rid of me," before her voice glitches out. Ash responds with, "You are a hindrance." She also has a unique door-break animation when her Heirloom is equipped, which will sometimes show her abandoning her Heirloom in favor of using her iconic sword to break down the door.

Horizon: Gravity Maw

Horizon's son gave Ash her Heirloom, but the origin of Horizon's Heirloom is not yet known.

Horizon's Gravity Maw Heirloom Set features a large mace with a black hole in the middle of it, similar to the one that appears when she activates her ultimate ability. But unlike Ash, Horizon has yet to reveal the source of her Heirloom Weapon or the story behind it. Given the fact that she's a brilliant astronaut who has managed to overcome the likes of gravity, space and time itself, it's certainly possible that Horizon's interstellar mace is a creation of her own invention.

In addition to the weapon itself, the Gravity Maw Heirloom Set includes the following items:

  • Scientific Method Horizon banner pose
  • "It's all relative, really" intro quip

The Gravity Maw Heirloom doesn't have too many animations, but there's an especially entertaining one in which the mace appears to break before Horizon manages to fix it. Once it's repaired, she holds it up as it draws several Nessie plushies into its orbit.

Fuse: Razor's Edge

Fuse's Heirloom Weapon was an anniversary gift from his partner.

Fuse's Razor's Edge Heirloom Set is a giant battle axe made from the remains of his broken guitar. Fuse's romantic partner, Bloodhound, repaired and modified the broken instrument, presenting Fuse with the new and improved guitar-axe hybrid as an anniversary gift.

The Razor's Edge Heirloom Set also features the following items:

  • Power Chord Fuse banner pose
  • "Salvo, how ya bloody doin' tonight?" intro quip

One of the Heirloom's most interesting animations is one that depicts Fuse popping open a bottle of Koala Kola (the company seems to serve as his sponsor for the Apex Games), pouring it into his boot, and taking a drink. He also has a rare door-break animation in which he forcefully throws his guitar at the door, shattering it.

Given the rarity of Heirloom Shards and the massive number of Heirloom Sets to choose from, it can be easy to jump the gun and end up with an Heirloom you thought you'd like but end up regretting. There's no way to take Apex's Heirloom Weapons for a test drive--and Respawn makes it clear that there are absolutely no refunds--so unless you're happy spending $168 to buy an Heirloom during its Collection Event, you'll want to be sure you've thought long and hard about which weapon you're going to spend those precious Heirloom Shards on.

But on the bright side, once you open an Apex Pack that has Heirloom Shards in it, you'll get an additional bonus Apex Pack, as the game doesn't count the one the Heirloom Shards come from as having been opened. This means you'll get both your Heirloom Shards and a trio of random cosmetics from a single Apex Pack. It may be small, but it's a nice reward for your patience, and it'll help you get a tiny head start on unlocking your next set of Heirloom Shards.
