On both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, the Targaryen family legacy looms large.. While House of the Dragon focuses on them at the height of its power, hundreds of years in the past, Game of Thrones--gives us a look at those who remain after their dragon-riding empire ultimately crumbles.

And unsurprisingly, there have been quite a few members of this family that have appeared on screen during these shows' runs. So we decided to highlight every Targaryen that's appeared on screen for the Game of Thrones universe.

For this look into all the Targaryens that have appeared on both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, we're taking a look at everyone that was a Targaryen at birth that has showed up on the series, not those who married into the family. There is one exception here, who is the son of a prominent Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

And while the book Fire & Blood details everything you need to know about the Targaryens, we're leaving out the death dates for members of House of the Dragon--who haven't passed yet--to avoid possible spoilers and because we've already learned that the series has deviated from the book already. However, there are Game of Thrones spoilers in this, so you've been warned.

So check out every Targaryen to appear on House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, and we'll keep updating this list as more Targaryen's pop up on House of the Dragon.

Jaehaerys "The Old King"

Born: 34 A.C.

Died: 103 A.C.

Seen briefly early on in House of the Dragon, setting up the story for the show. Jaehaerys was born three decades after his grandfather Aegon and his great aunts Visenya and Rhaenys took control of the Kingdoms. Jaehaerys was made king at 14 years old. He reigned for 55 years, the longest reigning king of the Iron Throne in all history, and it was a reign of peace and prosperity.

Rhaenys "The Queen That Never Was"

Born: 74 A.C.

While Jaehaerys was looking for an heir to the throne, after he passed away, it was between Rhaenys and her cousin Viserys, and Viserys got the job because of, to put it bluntly, misogyny. She married Lord Corlys Velaryon and is now known as "The Queen that never was," which probably hurts every time she hears it.

Viserys "The King"

Born: 77 A.C.

The grandson of Jeahaerys, Viserys was chosen to be king, after his grandfather's long rule of peace. He also seems to have some sort of flesh-eating disease which he may have gotten after cutting his hand open on the Iron Throne.

Daemon

Born: 81 A.C.

The brother of Viserys, Daemon is considered to be a threat to the realm by the Hand of the King. Daemon was forced to marry Rhea Royce, but wanted no part of that marriage. So Daemon left for Dragonstone with his mistress Mysaria, stealing a dragon egg in the process.

Rhaenyra

Born: ~90 A.C.

Rhaenyra's age has been changed significantly between Fire & Blood, as she's eight years younger in the book, born in 97 A.C., but in Episode 3 of House of the Dragon, she's 17. Regardless, she's the heir to the Iron Throne, and her friend, Alicent Hightower, married her father, Viserys.

Baelon

Born: 105 A.C.

The first born son of Viserys and his first wife Aemma--who died during childbirth--Baelon passed away shortly after coming into the world.

Aegon II

Born: 107 A.C.

The first born son of Viserys and Alicent, Aegon II is just a baby when we first see him, then two years old in Episode 3.

Maester Aemon

Born: 198 AC

Died: 300 AC

He's the Targaryen you forget is a Targaryen in Game of Thrones because he's not totally off his rocker. Aemon passed on being King, passing it onto his brother Aegon, because he was a maester, and that would go against his vows. Aemon joined the Night's Watch after this, where he ultimately died at Castle Black at 102. Aemon was the uncle of Aerys II.

Aerys II "The Mad King"

Born: 244 A.C.

Died: 283 A.C.

The last Targaryen king before the events of Game of Thrones, he had succumbed to the madness that affects the Targaryen lineage when he was king. This led to his Hand, Tywin Lannister, turning on Aerys, which ended with Tywin's son, Jaime, stabbing him in the back, killing him.

Rhaegar

Born: 259 A.C.

Died: 283 A.C.

The oldest son of Aerys II, Rhaegar was in love with Lyanna Stark, and the two secretly wed--and had a baby in secret. However, Rhaegar found himself in battle against Robert Baratheon, with Robert killing him. Rhaegar's children and wife were killed by The Mountain, as Tywin Lannister and the Kingsguard waged war against The Mad King, sacking King's Landing in the process.

Viserys

Born: 276 A.C.

Died: 298 A.C.

While Viserys Targaryan is the king in House of the Dragon, we're actually talking about his ancestor, the entitled, bratty brother of Daenerys in Game of Thrones. During the sacking of King's Landing, Viserys took his infant sister across the Narrow Sea to the Free Cities, as Viserys claimed he was the King, not Robert Baratheon. After using his sister as a bargaining chip, marrying her off to Khal Drogo, he wore out his welcome, and ended up being bathed in molten gold.

Daenerys

Born: 284 A.C.

Died: 305 A.C.

The mother of dragons escaped with her life as an infant, and grew up in the Free Cities. She was married to Khal Drogo. After he died, she decided to throw herself and her dragon eggs on the funeral pyre, only she didn't die and the dragon eggs hatched. She freed slaves, building an army, with the goal of heading back to King's Landing to take her place on the Iron Throne. She makes it there, but ends up dying at the hands of her nephew.

Aegon (Jon Snow)

Born: 283 A.C.

The supposed illegitimate son of Eddard Stark and an unnamed consort, it's revealed very late in the series that Jon Snow is actually Aegon, the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. However, Eddard took the baby to raise and care for him in secret. Aegon spends the majority of his time at Castle Black as a member of the Night's Watch.
