1. 3:10 To Yuma

Released in 2007 from director James Mangold (Logan, Walk the Line), 3:10 To Yuma is an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard American western drama that was originally made into a film in 1957. This new version, which was praised by critics upon release, stars Russell Crowe as an infamous outlaw and Christian Bale as a down-on-his-luck rancher who accepts the job of hunting Crowe's character down before he can board the… 3:10 to Yuma. Crowe and Bale turn in fantastic performances in this emotionally powerful and action-heavy western.

2. Deadpool

2016's Deadpool was a blockbuster in theaters, and it's still lots of fun on a re-watch. The R-rated film follows the story of Wade Wilson as he becomes Deadpool, the "merc with a mouth" known for his hijinks and potty mouth. Ryan Reynolds stars as Deadpool, and he delivers a fantastic performance in a role he seems to have been born to play.

3. Escape From Alcatraz

A prison escape thriller, 1979's Escape From Alcatraz starring Clint Eastwood is a dramatized re-telling of the real prisoner escape from the infamous San Francisco Bay island prison in 1962. Eastwood plays one of the escaped bank robbers, Frank Morris, from the maximum security prison. The film is intense and dramatic, and it was actually filmed on location at the prison. The prisoners who escaped were never found, and some speculate they may still be out there. Escape From Alcatraz is also notable because it marks Danny Glover's film debut.

4. Man On Fire

Directed by the late Tony Scott (Top Gun), 2004's Man On Fire is an action-thriller starring Denzel Washington in one of his more powerful and violent roles. Washington plays a suicidal former CIA agent who is hired by a rich family in Mexico to protect their daughter, played by a very young Dakota Fanning. After she is abducted, Washington goes on a rampage, ruthlessly and messily killing everyone in his path until he finds her. All is not what it seems, however, and the film takes many twists and turns leading up to its unexpected conclusion. Christopher Walken, Marc Anthony, Mickey Rourke, and Giancarlo Giannini also star.

5. The Other Guys

Adam McKay's 2010 follow-up to Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Step Brothers, The Other Guys is a very silly action-comedy about cops in New York City. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg star in the film about two mismatched detectives who, with the odds stacked against them and no one on their side, crack a huge case involving a comically evil villain. The film is full of memorable, quotable scenes (who could forget their first "desk pop"?). The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson appear briefly with a cast that also includes Eva Mendes, Ray Stevenson, Michael Keaton, Rob Riggle, and Steve Coogan. Derek Jeter also has an excellent cameo.

6. Spider-Man Movies

If you like Spider-Man films, Hulu has you covered. The streamer hosts a number of films in the popular series, including Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (but not the first one). So whether you're looking for Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, or Tom Holland's Spider-Man, you are (mostly) covered.

7. Johnny English

8. Demolition Man

1993's sci-fi action movie Demolition Man is a must-watch. The film stars Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes as sworn enemies who are cryogenically frozen. Snipes' character is thawed in the year 2032 for a parole hearing, and of course, he escapes. So it's decided that Stallone's character, John Spartan, be thawed as well to track him down. Need we say more?

9. Looper

Released in 2012, Looper is an action-thriller with a smart take on time travel. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as "loopers" who go back in time to kill people. A looper who lives too long is eventually sent back in time to kill their younger self, thus closing the loop. Gordon-Levitt and Willis play the time-travelers, and we won't give too much away, but Looper is a smart and fun action movie with a supporting cast that includes Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. The movie was directed by Rian Johnson, who would go on to make Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out.

10. Independence Day

It doesn't have to be the 4th of July to re-watch Independence Day. The 1996 blockbuster action movie is streaming on Hulu, and it's wildly over the top, silly, and filled with aliens and patriotism. Will Smith stars as a pilot sent on a dangerous mission to help save Earth from aliens. The ensemble cast also includes Bill Pullman as the President of the United States, along with Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Randy Quaid, and Robert Loggia. A sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, was released in 2016, but maybe watch the original instead.

11. Taken

2009's Taken from writer Luc Besson stars Liam Neeson as a former CIA officer whose teenage daughter, played by Lost's Maggie Grace, is abducted during a trip to France. This was the first in what became a series, and it's not hard to see why. The film helped put Neeson on the map as an action movie star despite being in his late 50s, and the film itself helped inspire many memes about "a particular set of skills." The story is all about revenge and hunting people down--it's very good, fun, and intense.

12. Aliens

Before Titanic, James Cameron directed the sequel to Alien, 1986's Aliens. The sci-fi action movie with horror elements features Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. Unfortunately for her, Ripley is not done fighting aliens just yet. She is sent to a moon colony to investigate, and, you guessed it, Ripley finds herself up against a new wave of aliens. Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, and Lance Henriksen also star in the film. Whereas the first Alien movie was more of a conventional horror film, Aliens, the sequel, took the series in a more action-oriented direction.

13. Kick Ass

2010's superhero action comedy Kick Ass is a great action movie. Based on the comic book, the film tells the story of a regular teen who wants to become a superhero--dubbing himself "Kick Ass." Aaron Johnson plays the main character, with a supporting cast that includes big names who deliver great performances like Nicolas Cage, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Chloe Grace Moretz. Kick Ass 2 is also on Hulu if you want to keep the party going.

14. Die Hard

Does it get any more action-y than Die Hard? The 1988 film starring Bruce Willis is considered by many to be a Christmas/holiday film, but it's a great watch at any time of the year. The movie features Willis as New York City detective John McClane who gets mixed up in a terrorist attack at Nakatomi Plaza. Alan Rickman, in one of his more memorable pre-Harry Potter roles, plays the villain Hans Gruber in one of his best performances. Go watch Die Hard.

15. Leon the Professional

Luc Besson's 1994 action movie Leon: The Professional stars Jean Reno as a hitman and Gary Oldman as a murderous DEA agent gone rogue. Natalie Portman makes her film debut as a 12-year-old whose family is murdered by Oldman's character. Reno's character takes her in, and they become an unlikely duo fighting to survive.

16. Prey

The Predator prequel Prey is a solid action movie that you can watch right now on Hulu. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Mirror), the movie centers on a Comanche warrior named Naru who must protect her people from an alien, the Predator. Here at GameSpot, we loved the movie for its suspenseful story and stunning kill sequences.
