Not one Kobold in this trailer?
The first trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has arrived, and it looks like a lot of fun. The March 2023 film will see a group of adventurers set off to fight and vanquish an evil being. It's much like a typical D&D campaign, but on the big screen with a big cast and writing/directing talent. Additionally, this movie had a lot of monsters in it, but what the heck are they?
To those who may not play D&D (you should give is a go), the world is filled with exceptionally well-known monsters you encounter upon your journeys, like Kobolds. They're little, red lizard-creatures almost everyone battles as a level 1 adventurer that are relatively easy to take down. No, they weren't in the trailer, but that's an example of what you can see.
Watching the trailer, here are the monsters that are confirmed to appear in the movie. In addition to learning more about these monsters, we'll tell you in what fifth edition D&D book and on what page you can find their stat blocks, in case you want your party to fight them yourself. And while they weren't in the trailer, Kobolds are on page 195 of the Monster Manual.
Black Dragon
What is it? It's the most evil (chaotic evil to be specific) of all the chromatic dragons. They're intelligent creatures--smarter than most humans--and love seeing humanity destroyed. They tend to live in swamps or ruins of kingdoms they've destroyed.

Giant Wolf Spider
What is it? There are plenty of giant insects in D&D, and while we see it briefly, this appears to be a giant wolf spider, not just a giant spider, which would show up as a lot larger than this.

Owlbear
What is it? This is a little bit of a cheat as Sophia Lillis's tiefling druid character is casting Wild Shape in order to turn from a horse to an owlbear. This creature has the power of a bear and the sight of an owl. They're pretty tough.

Stone Golem
What is it? This is a bit tricky because in an earlier shot, this dragon was a normal statue. So it could be a stone golem that was dormant or someone cast a spell to bring a statue to life. Stone golems are tough, as like most golems, they're just beings that follow its creator's orders and will not stop until it's accomplished its task or is defeated. However, stone golems are made of stone so they're tougher to successfully attack.

Mimic
What is it? It's a shapeshifting creatures that takes on the form of inanimate objects, waiting around for someone to interact with it, and then it strikes. They typically take the form of treasure chests, but also transform into doors, walls, arrows--whatever will attract their next victim.

Gelatinous Cube
What is it? As infamous as mimics or kobolds, gelatinous cube is a giant body of ooze that consume whatever gets inside it, slowly dissolving it. Many times, adventurers find weapons and bones inside of it.

Displacer Beast
What is it? A very bizarre-looking animal, a displacer beast is a giant, vicious, cat-looking monster with two tentacles coming out of its back. These animals kill for sport and were once only found in the Feywild.

Red Dragon
What is it? Red dragons love treasure. They want to have their own giant pile of gold and shiny things and are the ultimate collectors. Much like their black dragon counterparts, red dragons are also evil.
