Since 1995, Pixar has been producing some of the top animated movies in the industry. Even Pixar's "bad movies" aren't that bad when compared to all the other CG animated films out there.
With Lightyear arriving in theaters, it's time to look at every feature movie that's come out of Pixar studios since 1995. In total, there have been 26 feature films from Pixar, and while many are loved, none of them are universally hated. And that's a pretty big deal considering every studio puts out a stinker or two.
But what people love about Pixar is the relatable stories each movie tells. It doesn't matter who or what the main character is, we can all see ourselves in their struggle, one way or another. So looking at everything Pixar has put out so far, what movie did critics universally like the most? What one did they like the least? Using GameSpot's sister site Metacritic, which takes the average score of trusted critic reviews, we're ranking every Pixar movie. Check them all out below.
26. Cars 2 (2011)
Metacritic score: 57
The follow-up to the original Cars film sees Lightning McQueen and his buddy Mater head to the World Grand Prix overseas. McQueen is determined to prove he's the fastest car in the world, and Mater accidentally gets wrapped up in espionage.
25. Cars 3 (2017)
Metacritic score: 59
Closing out the Cars trilogy, McQueen feels his age as a generation of new racers appears and they're all futuristic and high-tech. He takes inspiration from the past and a new trainer in order to gain the ability to beat these pesky kids with all their fancy racing tech.
24. Lightyear (2021)
Metacritic score: 60
In the world of Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear became a household name because of a sci-fi movie called Lightyear. The film follows an astronaut who must fight some bad robots in an attempt to get home from a distant planet.
In GameSpot's review of Lightyear, Chris E. Hayner said, "Lightyear is a huge win for Pixar after not seeing its movies in theaters for over two years. It's funny, heartfelt, beautifully made, and a great example of how to expand on an existing franchise without diluting it."
23. Onward (2020)
Metacritic score: 61
Released just prior to the pandemic, Onward followed two brothers in a mystical land where magic has all but gone extinct. Their late father leaves them a spell to bring him back for 24 hours and the brothers--and half of their father--go on a journey to complete the spell.
22. Monsters University (2013)
Metacritic score: 65
A prequel to one of Pixar's most-beloved films, Monsters University follows Mike and Sully when they first met in college. The duo don't get along, but they pledge together at the same fraternity and learned to become friends.
21. The Good Dinosaur (2015)
Metacritic score: 66
The asteroid that killed the dinosaurs never happened, and early homo sapiens live alongside them. This movie follows the adventures of Arlo, who befriends a young human, and the two go on an adventure.
20. Brave (2012)
Metacritic score: 69
Taking place in Scotland, Brave follows Merida, the daughter of a king and a queen, who wants to change her fate--and not be married off by her family. However, within trying to change her fate, she puts a curse on members of her family.
19. Luca (2021)
Metacritic score: 71
Luca follows two young sea monsters outside of an Italian port town who turn into humans when they're not wet. They venture into town and find the humans there fear and hate sea monsters, but the two boys want to compete in a bike race.
18. Cars (2006)
Metacritic score: 73
The most-loved of the Cars trilogy follows Lightning McQueen--and anthropomorphized racecar--who ends up in a small town, accidentally destroying a portion of it. McQueen looks to right his wrongs and makes some friends along the way.
17. A Bug's Life (1998)
Metacritic score: 77
The film follows Flik, an ant, who wants to save his colony from grasshoppers. So Flik looks to recruit a group of bugs in order to help him.
16. Finding Dory (2016)
Metacritic score: 77
The follow-up to Finding Nemo, the forgetful Dory goes on a wild journey in order to find out what happened to her parents and where Dory comes from.
15. Monsters Inc. (2001)
Metacritic score: 79
Following Sully and Mike--two monsters working at a monster electric company--the duo accidentally let a human child into the world of monsters, and they have to do everything they can to get her back.
14. Incredibles 2 (2018)
Metacritic score: 80
Taking place in the direct aftermath of the first film, Helen becomes a legal superhero, while Bob stays home with the kids--with Jack Jack developing all the superpowers. However, a new supervillain is hypnotizing people across the city, and only Helen can stop them.
13. Coco (2017)

Miguel wants to be a musician--against his family's wishes--he thinks his great-great grandfather is famous musician Ernesto de la Cruz, so he wants to borrow his late family member's guitar. In grabbing it, he's sent to the land of the dead and needs a family member's blessing in order to get back. And he has to do so before the sun rises or he's stuck there forever.
12. Turning Red (2022)

Airing directly on Disney+, Turning Red follows Mei Lee, a 13-year-old living in Toronto in 2002. The new teenager quickly learns she can turn into a gigantic red panda when she's excited, and has to wait for her family's help to get rid of this "curse."
11. Soul (2020)
Metacritic score: 83
Joe, a New York City jazz pianist, gets his first big break, playing with a famous musician. However, he dies and his soul heads to the afterlife. Becoming the mentor for another soul, Joe races back to Earth in order to make it to his big gig.
10. Toy Story 4 (2019)
Metacritic score: 84
Bonnie's family is on a road trip, and the toy she created in class, Forky, is lost. Woody and company go on an adventure in order to return this toy that certainly isn't trash before Bonnie's family has to leave.
9. Toy Story 2 (1999)
Metacritic score: 88
After adjusting to Buzz Lightyear joining Andy's home, Woody is toynapped by a toy store owner, looking to sell Woody to a Japanese museum along with other wild west toys.
8. Up (2009)
Metacritic score: 88
Carl Fredricksen, a 78-year-old widow, puts thousands of balloons outside of his house, in order to make a journey by air to South America. However, a stowaway named Russell is on board as well.
7. Finding Nemo (2003)
Metacritic score: 90
A young clownfish named Nemo becomes separated from his father at the Great Barrier Reef and goes on an adventure in the ocean. Meanwhile, his father and a forgetful fish named Dory are on the search for Nemo.
6. The Incredibles (2004)
Metacritic score: 90
The film follows a family who all have superpowers, in a world where super-heroics are illegal. Bob heads to an island to battle robots, in a scheme that quickly turns against him.
5. Toy Story 3 (2010)
Metacritic score: 92
With Andy getting older and heading off to college, the toys are donated to a local day care. However, the day care is run by a pink bear tyrant who keeps Andy's old toys in the rough and tumble toddler room. The group is on a mission to escape the daycare.
4. Inside Out (2015)
Metacritic score: 94
Inside every human are the personifications of every emotion, running the show. A teen named Riley is moving across the country to San Francisco with her family, and her emotions are running amok, which leads Riley to losing some of her treasured memories.
3. Toy Story (1995)

Pixar's first feature-length movie follows the adventures of the toys in Andy's room. During Andy's birthday, he gets a brand-new toy called Buzz Lightyear, and Andy's former favorite toy--a sheriff named Woody--feels replaced and forgotten.
2. Wall-E (2008)

Earth has been destroyed by pollution and garbage, and Wall-E is a garbage collecting robot with his own personality. After finding a plant growing, Wall-E and another robot head into space where the rest of humanity is living.
1. Ratatouille (2007)

The highest-rated movie by critics from Pixar is none other than 2007's Ratatouille. Starring Patton Oswalt as the voice of Remy the rat, the movie follows said rat who has a knack for cooking and wants to become a great chef. Secretly working with garbage boy Linguini, Remy helps Linguini make a name for himself as a great chef while living out his fantasy.
