Thor Love And Thunder Trailer Breakdown And First Look At Christian Bale As Gorr Friv 0

On July 8, the fourth installment in Marvel's Thor franchise will arrive in theaters. Titled, Thor: Love and Thunder, this film marks only the second time an MCU property has gotten a fourth film, the other being The Avengers. A new trailer has arrived for Love and Thunder, and it gave us our first look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher--something very meme-able.

So we are breaking down the latest trailer to see what's going on in this movie. What's the plot? What are the references to the comics? What can we speculate will happen in this film? We're digging in deep to this trailer.

Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Thor (we'll get to that), Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and there are many more people in the movie (including several other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy). Taika Waititi directs the movie.

And we kick things off with Warbound Korg (voiced by Taika Watiti) telling people the tale of Thor. Let's get into what we learned about the upcoming movie.

1. New Asgard

In Avengers: Endgame, we saw that the displaced Asgardians (Because Ragnarok happened at the end of Thor: Ragnarok) are now living on Earth, and they have their own town. However, in Love in Thunder, it looks like it's become a tourist attraction, with numerous cruise ships docking at the port town.

2. Nice hat

Thor is wearing a hat that says something like "Strongest Avengers." This is a very nice callback to Thor: Ragnarok, where Thor tried to get a spaceship on Sakaar with the passcode "Strongest Avenger," which you later find out was Hulk's passcode. Thor's passcode was "Point Break."

3. Working out

While trying to get his "God Bod" back, Thor ends up playing tug-of-war with The Guardians' spaceship.

4. Mjolnir

If you're wondering why Thor's hammer looks so weird, it's because it was destroyed. In Ragnarok, Thor's sister, Hela, destroyed it, but now, it's back together (Note: this isn't the same version that was used in Avengers: Endgame, which was brought from the past. Captain America returned that to Asgard at the end of the film).

5. Thor II: Back in the Habit

Mjolnir isn't in Thor's possession, it's in Thor's possession. Ok, that's confusing. Jane Foster (Portman) now possesses the powers and abilities of Thor, as she is now worthy of wielding the hammer.

During the comic story Original Sin, Thor (the male one) was told something that made him unworthy to carry the hammer. During this time, a female Thor popped up with Mjolnir, and it was a big mystery as to who was under the helmet. It turned out to be Jane Foster, who was dying of cancer. There's a big story within her battle of cancer as well, which you should totally read.

6. This is an interesting helmet

Thor has had some interesting costumes throughout the series--and even this movie. He starts out dressed as a Ravager, and then gets this helmet. It looks loosely based, or paying homage to, The Mighty Thor #378 from 1988, written by Walt Simonson. The main difference between this helmet and the comic book version is that the one in the comics looks more like wings coming out of the sides of the helmet.

7. Gorr

Bale as Gorr looks incredibly unsettling.

Gorr was created by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribi, making his first appearance in Thor: God of Thunder #2 back in 2012. Before he killed gods, Gorr was a person living on a planet, where everyone he loved died. Gorr prayed to the gods, but they never listened. One day, he found two gods battling each other in the desert, and when one needed his help, Gorr took his sword and killed him with it. This was the Necrosword. Gorr went on a crusade to kill all gods.

8. A familiar scene

This shot was in the first trailer, so this technically isn't new. However, it's cool to point out that this shot of a dead, gigantic monster--which is actually a god--pays homage to Thor: God of Thunder #3. It's almost identical to the comic book panel--except Korg wasn't there. For a long time, Korg was Warbound to Hulk and hung out with him exclusively.

9. More Gorr

Again, this is our first look at Gorr, so we're going to drink it in. It's really hard to tell that this is Bale.

10. Even more Gorr

And while Gorr may come off at times as a sympathetic character--considering his family and kids all died--he's still a murderer and hell-bent on killing all the gods.

11. Thor's costume

Earlier, the new Thor helmet looked a bit wild, but the full costume looks a lot more like an amalgamation of a bunch of different Thor costumes, with a little bit of Jack Kirby and Walt Simonson flare.

It looks like it's a little bit of classic Thor, the Mystical Battle Armor Thor we mentioned earlier, King Thor, and some Earth X Thor as well.

12. Gorr

Gorr is pretty terrifying. Again, please use this for meme purposes.

13. Zeus

Briefly, we see Russell Crowe as Zeus, and considering there's a god butcher on the loose, maybe Zeus needs to protect his neck. And if Zeus is in this movie, does that mean we'll get to finally see MCU Hercules? For non-comic book readers, Hercules is a relatively big character in Marvel Comics, as far as gods-becoming-superheroes goes.

14. Thor, son of Odin

We sincerely doubt Thor's butt will be pixelated in the movie, so you can look forward to Thor butt in Love and Thunder.

15. Thor's "Hammer"

The Love and Thunder trailers sure do know how to leave on a high note. This time around, it's a bunch of people fainting after seeing some full frontal Thor nudity.
