At this year's Super Bowl, we got to see the second trailer for the upcoming Marvel movie Doctor Strange And The Multiverse of Madness, which arrives in theaters on May 6. And while the first trailer from back in December got everyone talking, this latest one was super juicy, filled with huge talking points for Marvel fans.

From X-Men you've been dying to see in a MCU movie to interdimensional beings that are playable characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, this trailer has a lot going on, and because it takes place in the multiverse, it's a bit confusing. Luckily, we're here to breakdown the latest trailer to see what we can find that you may have missed.

Below, you'll find some references and Easter eggs to other Marvel movies, TV shows, and the comics. If you really want to be able to wrap your head around this trailer though, you'll probably want to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home, the first Doctor Strange movie, and the Disney+ series What If…? If you do, things may make a lot more sense. Check out the breakdown below.

Dreams or reality?

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a dreamlike world--or in another dimension--looking at the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is surrounded by nothingness. There seem to be skills all over the ground. It's the only building left standing in New York City, apparently. Upon entering, there is a never-ending staircase headed to the sky.

Miss America is in the MCU

American Chavez--played by Xochitl Gomez (The Babysitter's Club)--makes an appearance here. She was in the first trailer as well. The star on the back of the denim jacket gives the character away. In the comics, Chavez was raised on a parallel Earth. She has numerous super-powered abilities, and has been a part of superhero teams like A-Force and the Young Avengers. There's also some bizarre creature screaming at her, but we're not sure what that is.

Dr. Palmer is getting married

We see Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) walking outside of a building looking completely shocked in a wedding dress, but while she was kind of the love interest--to the smallest degree--in the first Doctor Strange movie, she's not marrying Strange. She's marrying the man behind her. From the previous trailer, we know Strange is attending though.

Back to Kamar-Taj

We see many people training back at Kamar-Taj--including a minotaur. There's a storm coming to the training grounds. It seems like everything that's familiar to Strange is being ripped down, piece by piece.

Working together

Strange, Chavez, and someone else--maybe it's Scarlet Witch?--find themselves floating around. While the movie doesn't seem like a team film, it certainly is utilizing two other multiverse travelers--Chavez and Scarlet Witch--quite a bit in the trailer.

Mordo is here

Chiwetel Ejiofor is back as Mordo. He says, "I'm sorry, Stephen," and while that doesn't give any insight into the movie, Mordo parted ways with Strange and the Kamar-Taj at the end of the first movie. After Mordo saw Strange and the Ancient One misusing magic--he saw it as that--he went out on his own. And from the way that the trailer sets up, Mordo is in charge of some sort of group and arresting Strange for everything he's done.

Are these what we think they are?

Strange gets arrested and we see four robots escorting him. These look like Ultron Bots. Could we be on another Earth where Ultron wasn't defeated, and Ultron is the ruler? Or did some Ultron Bots on the MCU Earth survive? Or are we once again dealing with Ultron from What If…?, who collected all the Infinity Stones and wreaked havoc on the multiverse?

Illuminati vibes

Strange walks into a room where there are six chairs, and at least three people are seated. This feels like Marvel's Illuminati. It's a group of six superheroes who have joined forces to create a secret government and to pull the strings behind the scenes--and also share information and stop giant threats. The original team consisted of Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, Professor X, and Namor. Richards and Namor also haven't appeared in the MCU yet. Black Bolt has but it was on that poorly received ABC series Inhumans.

Patrick Stewart is here

Another reason this feels like the Illuminati is because we hear Patrick Stewart say, "We should tell him the truth." As you remember, Stewart plays Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies. It feels like we're finally getting the X-Men in the MCU.

Evil Doctor Strange

We meet what seems like the villain of the movie, evil Doctor Strange. Marvel movies certainly love making the antagonist have the same powers as the protagonist. We saw this character in the previous trailer for the film--which was first revealed at the end credits of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Many people are wondering if this is the same Doctor Strange from the Disney+ series What If…? in which we saw an evil version of Strange terrorizing the multiverse. There's no confirmation of that yet.

Superior Iron Man?

Although the character's creators Tom Taylor and Yildiray Cinar have no background info on this, watching this over and over, it looks like this could be Superior Iron Man. Following the events of the Marvel story Axis--which flipped heroes to villains and villains to heroes thanks to a spell--Tony Stark shielded himself from being flipped back to a hero. Stark wore a white Iron Man suit, and was the worst version of that character. There are rumors floating around that this is Tom Cruise as Tony Stark from another dimension--as Cruise was reportedly working on an Iron Man movie prior to the 2008 one. There's no confirmation of that, but from what we see very briefly here, this could be Superior Iron Man.

Shuma Gorath

This is probably a character you know best from Marvel Super Heroes or MvC2. He's the purple tentacle monster you never pick. Shuma is an old Dr. Strange villain from the early '70s, and ruled Earth before civilized man took over. It was a being that demanded human sacrifice and in later years, the character was considered more of an extra-dimensional being and ruler of many alternate universes. In the world of Doctor Strange, it is one of the many villains that can't be destroyed.

Doctor Strange the hero

Who knows if this is our Earth or another one--probably another one--but Doctor Strange has his own statue in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum, but it doesn't have his trademark goatee. Our guess is that this is actually the evil Doctor Strange's world, because who erects a statue of themselves?

The Scarlet Witch

"You break the rules, you become the hero. I do it, I become the enemy. That doesn't seem fair." Scarlet Witch says to Strange. This is referencing WandaVision where Wanda held the entire town of Westview captive. As for what rules Strange broke, there's been plenty already, which includes messing with the time stone (in Doctor Strange, Infinity War, and Endgame) and opening the door to the multiverse (Spider-Man: No Way Home).

Additionally, Scarlet Witch has her full costume on back again. We'll most-likely see her using her full powers, and maybe she'll find her sons, since we already have one member of the Young Avengers in this movie and could use a couple more.

Zombie Doctor Strange?

During the Disney+ series What If…? there was an episode about a zombie virus infecting Marvel heroes, and one of said heroes was Doctor Strange. We see what could be a zombie Doctor Strange here. And this is true, it could be the third What If…? reference in this movie.
