2022 may have just started but it's already shaping up to be a massive year for TV. Here's what to look out for and wher

Welcome to a brand new year! We may only be a few days into 2022, but it's never too early to start making plans for your streaming services and schedule. This year has some pretty massive releases in terms of genre TV--whether you're a fan of big shared universe franchises like the MCU and Star Wars or are more cautiously optimistic for adaptations from video games and novels. There's something here for everyone.

We've got some right around the corner--HBOMax's Suicide Squad spin-off Peacemaker is premiering next week--and some that are still a ways away (sorry, Lord of the Rings fans). But no matter where your favorites fall on the calendar, it's always best to come prepared. Here are 14 TV shows we can't wait to binge in 2022. What are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below.

Peacemaker

January 13 on HBOMax

Spinning out of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker returns John Cena to his break-out superhero (and we use that term very lightly in this context) role. Expect extremely raunchy, violent action-comedy and plenty of obscure DC Easter eggs.

Ms. Marvel

TBA on Disney+

While 2021 may have been a banner year for Disney and Marvel, 2022's slate of Disney+ MCU TV shows is hoping to turn things up a notch. Ms. Marvel, which will introduce Kamala Khan to the MCU for the first time, is expected this year.

The Lord of the Rings

September 3 on Amazon Prime

The mysterious and highly anticipated Lord of the Rings TV show is coming in September and while we don't know much about it yet, we've got high hopes for a fantastic return to Middle Earth.

Stranger Things Season 4

TBA on Netflix

Strange Things Season 3 ended on a major cliffhanger for some of our favorite residents of Hawkins, Indiana--cliffhangers that will hopefully resolve with Season 4. We don't know when it'll be arriving, but a safe guess would be sometime in the summer or fall.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

TBA on Disney+

The MCU isn't the only shared universe franchise at Disney gearing up for a big year--Star Wars has a couple major TV releases in the works, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, which returns Ewan McGregor to a galaxy far, far away.

House of the Dragon

TBA on HBO

Yes, there is more Game of Thrones on the way. A prequel set 200 years before the original series comes House of the Dragon, which will focus on the rise of House Targaryen. There is no set release date, but there is a trailer.

Andor

TBA on Disney+

Another Star Wars project for Disney+ is Andor, which will take us back to Rogue One and spy Cassian Andor for what promises to be an action packed and bleak affair--after all, we already know how his story ends.

Umbrella Academy Season 3

TBA on Netflix

Umbrella Academy Season 3 has started ramping up its promotional efforts, but you may be a bit confused if you haven't finished Season 2, which ended with even more time-and-space hopping than usual. The new, alternate universe Umbrella Academy is called the Sparrow Academy and they're unsurprisingly mysterious.

Halo

TBA on Paramount+

The very delayed Halo show is on its way this year, and even had a brief promotional spot to prove it--though it's understandable if you didn't think it would ever see the light of day. This project got shuffled around for a while before finally landing at Paramount+, where it'll presumably premiere this year.

The Sandman

TBA on Netflix

Netflix's adaptation of the iconic comic series The Sandman is also headed for the streaming service at some point this year--though we haven't seen much beyond a handful of promotional stills and some behind the scenes footage for it just yet.

Interview with the Vampire

TBA on AMC

Not much is known about AMC's adaptation of the Anne Rice Vampire novel--we can assume by the title that it will be another live-action version of the original novel which was originally turned into a film starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise back in 1994. We know Sam Reid will be playing Lestat but the release date is still under wraps.

The Last of Us

TBA on HBO

HBO's The Last of Us TV show entered production with Pedro Pascal nabbing the role of Joel and Bella Ramsy as Ellie. We have yet to see any footage just yet, and a release date has not been set, but we can expect it at some point in the latter half of this year.

Moon Knight

TBA on Disney+

Oscar Isaac is making the jump from the Star Wars franchise to the MCU with Moon Knight this year. We've only had brief glimpses of the show in the form of sizzle reels thus far--but the character, Marc Spector, is a troubled hero with diverging personalities that may or may not be a product of delusions or literal magic.

She-Hulk

TBA on Disney+

Last but certainly not least, She-Hulk is the final MCU Disney+ project on the docket for 2022--and it couldn't be more different from the others. Starring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, She-Hulk will look at the characters struggle as both a lawyer and a superhero.
