The Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett continues to roll on with Episode 3 landing on the streaming service this past week. Now the Daimyo of Mos Espa, Fett is trying to get his affairs in order and everyone under his control. Additionally, the show continues to flash back to Fett's time with the Tuskens, before he regained his Mandalorian armor.
Because the planet of Tatooine is such a focal-point in the Star Wars Universe--which is weird considering it's the Outer Rim of galactic civilization--there's a few callbacks and references to other things in the galaxy far, far away. There were also a few surprise appearances from well-known actors in this week's episode as well.
Below, you'll find a few Easter eggs we spotted in this week's episode, which was titled "Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa." There's a few deep dives into characters from previous Star Wars works and some more recent canon stuff as well.
B'omaar Order
The opening shot of this week's episode is this weird spider-looking creature, one which has ties to Jabba's Palace on Tattooine. But what is this thing? Is it a robot or a creature? Well, it's a little bit of both if you go back through Star Wars lore.
This is actually a monk of the B'omarr Order. Before old Star Wars canon was wiped clean, the B'omarr Monks ran the palace which Boba Fett now lives in. They had their brains removed from their bodies and placed into jars to avoid sensual distractions. Prior to this, they've only briefly appeared once, in Return of the Jedi.
Lortha Peel is missing his stapler
Fett is greeted by Lortha Peel, who has some issues with a local cyborg gang stealing his water. Peel is played by none other than Stephen Root, who you probably know as Milton from Office Space. He hates the youths that are stealing from him.
One of those youths is on Yellowjackets
One of the leaders of this augmented gang is Drash. If she looks familiar, that's probably because you've been watching Showtime's Yellowjackets. Drash is played by Sophie Thatcher, who plays young Natalie on the Showtime series. Her group is hired by Fett, and they come in handy for a race through Mos Espa later in the episode.
Flashback to a very young Boba
If you know your Star Wars movie lore, then you know Boba Fett is actually a clone of his "father" Jango Fett--an unaltered clone, as altered clones became Clone Troopers for the Republic. All of the clones were created on the planet Kamino, and here, we see young Boba watching his "father" fly away in his ship, the Slave One.
Boba Fett is still dealing with pain issues
Prior to becoming the Daimyo, Fett escaped a Sarlacc pit and almost died in the desert. He had severe injuries from his journey, and the Bacta tank is slowly healing him. Fett is seemingly still not at 100% yet, so he sleeps in the tank, which should get him back to normal.
Black Krrsantan
Appearing in Episode 2 as well, the Wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan returns. Black K first appeared in Marvel's Darth Vader comic from 2015. Black K is familiar with Tatooine as he's worked for Jabba the Hutt in the past. Additionally, he was hired by Darth Vader to work alongside Boba Fett in order to track down Luke Skywalker after the destruction of the first Death Star. However, Black K has shown loyalty to the Hutts, continuing to work with the Twins. This is a character who had a good run in the comics, and it's wonderful for fans to see him on the small screen. Now, can we get Doctor Aphra and 0-0-0?
A familiar Rancor keeper
After the battle with Black K, the Twins gift Boba a young Rancor to keep in his Rancor pit. There's a bit of exposition and lore dropped on Boba, but what you're probably paying attention to most is the Rancor's keeper. It's none other than Danny Trejo, who you probably know from Dusk Till Dawn, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Machete, or one of the hundreds of other acting credits he's had since the '80s. On Boba Fett, his character's name hasn't been revealed yet though, but we doubt it's as fun to say as Malakili, the Rancor keeper from Return of the Jedi.
