Black Friday typically sees one of the year's biggest sales on Steam games, and this year is no exception: the Steam Black Friday sale is now live. Thousands of PC games are now on sale, and while there are big digital game sales on consoles, the sheer breadth of Steam's catalog makes the Steam Black Friday sale the most overwhelming one to parse through. That's where we come in.
We've compiled a roundup of some of the best game deals on Steam right now. Given the sheer scale of how many games are on sale (there are thousands of games and pieces of DLC included), there is no shortage of options, but we've done our best to highlight some of the finest ones available. It is worth noting that while shopping on Steam is convenient, you can often find PC games at steeper discounts through online stores like Fanatical and Green Man Gaming, both of which have their own Black Friday sales happening. Many of the games on those stores can be redeemed on Steam, so picking up a game through one of them can save you a few bucks. For instance, Death Stranding is $30 on Steam but $24 on GMG.

Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima's first project since parting ways with Konami is every bit the quirky, thought-provoking game you might have hoped for. It's also proven to be weirdly prophetic given the ongoing pandemic of 2020. Death Stranding was one of our favorites games of 2019, and this is your chance to check it out for half price.
Among Us

While only a small discount (and one for a game that you can play for free on mobile), this is a notable inclusion in Steam's sale given the wild popularity of Among Us. Despite being a couple of years old, the deception-based multiplayer game has become hugely popular because, let's face it, it's fun to murder and lie to your friends within the context of a video game. With cross-play and online multiplayer support, it's a great way to spend some (distant) time with friends. Plans for a sequel have been canceled, with ongoing support planned for this game instead.
Outer Wilds

Another of our favorite games of 2019, Outer Wilds is a terrific adventure game in which you'll explore various planets, making fascinating discoveries. It's a game that you're better off knowing very little about going in, but if a story-driven space exploration game sounds like it's up your alley, this is a must-play.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Our 2019 Game of the Year, Sekiro is another masterful action game developed by From Software. Pairing an intricate combat system with an intriguing story set in Sengoku Japan, Sekiro will push you to your limits--making victory all the sweeter.
No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky was maligned upon its release by many for failing to meet the grandiose expectations that had been set for it, but developer Hello Games has done an incredible job of expanding on that foundation with free update after free update. With VR support, in-depth base building, and so many new things to do and check out, No Man's Sky is better than ever, and a game worthy of all the hype it generated prior to release.
Control: Ultimate Edition

Yet another of our favorite games of 2019 at a steep discount, Control is a tremendous action game set inside a secret government building filled with the supernatural. While the combat itself is certainly fun, with environmental destruction and telekinetic powers that let you fling objects around, it's the game's story and worldbuilding that pushes it to another level, creating a fascinating setting that you'll want to dig into. This Ultimate edition packs in the game's two DLC expansions, The Foundation and AWE.
Hades

A more recent game than many others on this list, Hades is one of the best titles of the year. Supergiant's latest blends elements of its previous games into a narrative-driven roguelike. It has an incredible soundtrack and voice cast, but its true innovation is in how it drives the story forward whether you win or fall short in a given run. Cross-save support with the Nintendo Switch edition is also on the way, so you'll be able to move your progress between the two in the future.
Celeste

What appears on the surface to simply be a tough-as-nails platformer--which it is, and a very good one at that--is actually much more. Celeste tells the touching story of Madeline, who has to contend with mental illness and coming to terms with her identity as a transgender woman. While very satisfying to play, it's the characters and narrative that elevate Celeste to become something special.
Doom Eternal

Despite having released just earlier this year, the follow-up to 2016's excellent Doom is already 67% off. This intense first-person shooter doubles down on what made its predecessor great, giving you more ways in which to rapidly navigate the environment as monstrous demons nip at your heels. With an array of fun weapons and another great soundtrack from Mick Gordon, it's a shooter that's well worth your time.
Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium is another 2019 favorite of GameSpot's, and with good reason. It's a role-playing game with an incredibly in-depth dialogue system that allows you to really own the character and investigate as you wish. If you're into dialogue-heavy, choice-driven narrative games, be sure to check it out.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection

The Halo series has long been underrepresented on PC, but that's no longer the case. The recently concluded Halo: The Master Chief Collection compiles together six different games--Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo 4--complete with overhauled visuals and online multiplayer support intact. It's an incredible package for Halo fans or newcomers, only lacking the most recent game, Halo 5: Guardians, which still isn't available on PC.
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered

If a Studio Ghibli film were a video game, it'd look a lot like Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch--mostly because the acclaimed Japanese animation studio actually contributed to Ni no Kuni's music and art design. This charming and wholly captivating JRPG tells the story of a young boy named Oliver who has the ability to travel between two worlds, using creatures known as "familiars" to engage in battles. A remastered version was released in 2019, and for only $15, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a steal.
Othercide

Othercide might be one of the best games of 2020 that you haven't heard of, and if you're a fan of turn-based tactics games, now's a great time to correct that oversight. With a grayscale, gothic art style and a moody, heavy metal-inspired soundtrack that truly slaps, Othercide delivers brutal turn-based combat that relies on a dynamic timeline system to determine action order; plus, its lore and storytelling are among the best we've seen in a video game in a long time.
Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight is one of the best metroidvania games on the market, taking inspiration from the souls-like genre in how it handles death, combat, and lore. Its cutesy imagery masks a dark tale of a kingdom that fell to a mysterious infection and the lingering survivors trying to make it through the day. Hollow Knight is a game for those looking for a world to explore and exist in for a while. And sure, that world wants to kill you at every turn, but taking the time to overcome it is a deeply rewarding experience. The soundtrack is pretty top-notch, too.
If Found…

You can easily finish If Found in a single sitting, but the impact of the game will stick with you for much longer. Telling the story of both a transgender woman struggling to find her place in the world and an astronaut trying to survive a black hole and return home, If Found doesn't pull any punches with its narrative. Its singular mechanic is to erase the words and images found in a journal that recounts the events of both protagonists. Yeah, it's simple, but it manages to get at the heart of If Found's final message--please don't miss out on one of 2020's best stories.
Ikenfell

Ikenfell might be the most charming video game of 2020--it's definitely something you want to play if you've been feeling a bit down this year. This retro-styled, EarthBound-looking game is about a seemingly normal girl who goes in search of her missing sister, a gifted mage who attends a prestigious magical school, only to discover that she's developed powerful pyrokinetic abilities. What follows is a delightful story of friendship, romance, and discovering one's own self-worth. There's a lot of queer and PoC representation, too! Plus, the soundtrack is full of absolute bangers.
Full Metal Furies

Full Metal Furies is a pretty interesting game in that you get as much out of it as you're willing to put into it. Simply follow the story and you'll get a pretty good, sidescroller beat-em-up-style game that plays out like a much shorter Castle Crashers. However, if you take the time to snoop around each level, you can discover riddles that require some clever solutions to solve, some even needing you to do stuff outside of the game. There's a whole part of the game just locked off to the unobservant, and it's fascinating to take the time and unfold it all. Don't be fooled--this is one of the best mystery-driven games out there; it's not a simple beat-em-up.
Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe

If you've ever been playing Monster Hunter while watching Chopped and thought to yourself, "Man, I'd love it if I could find a way to combine these two things," then this is the game for you. Battle Chef Brigade is a delightful puzzle game that is also a side-scrolling monster hunting game and a visual novel and a bit of a cooking simulator. All of these ingredients mix together into a recipe for success, one that's further improved by its delightful soundtrack and wonderful cast of lovable characters.
Super Meat Boy

Still one of the all-time great platformers, Super Meat Boy is supremely difficult, and you--as the titular boy made of meat--will die in gruesome fashion more times than you can count. But the precise, terrific-feeling platforming mechanics and time trial nature of the game will push you to keep coming back for more and more. While there have been more recent ports of the game, this version includes the phenomenal original soundtrack from Danny Baranowsky, which might just be the best part of what's already a great game.
Persona 4 Golden

While only a modest discount, Persona 4 Golden is a beloved RPG, and this PC release does it justice. It features many of the elements you might be familiar with if you got on board with the series with Persona 5, like collecting different Personas to use in combat and forging bonds with your friends. It blends together the RPG combat of the Shin Megami Tensei series with a social sim that tells the story of a group of high school students solving a curious set of murders. It's an all-time classic that deserves to be in your Steam library.
N++
$7.49 (was $15)
N++ might appear to be a standard platformer at first, but the way it makes use of your momentum lends it a distinct feel that's like very little else. With literally thousands of levels, a distinct, minimalist art style, and a great soundtrack, it's a terrific package.
Cloudpunk

Maybe you can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077. Maybe the idea of driving a flying delivery vehicle around a cyberpunk city appeals to you. Whatever the case, Cloudpunk should be right up your alley, putting you into the shoes of a first-time employee who has to speed around a futuristic, neon-drenched city.
Black Mesa
$10 (was $20)
A fan-made remake of the original Half-Life that was more than a decade in the making, it's still hard to believe Black Mesa was finally able to see the light of day. More surprising is that it truly does justice to Valve's classic FPS game while also reimagining elements throughout. Black Mesa is just $10 during this sale, which coincides with the release of the Definitive edition update, which makes improvements across the board.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year edition

A mainstay of any Steam sale, but not something to be overlooked, The Witcher 3 is one of the generation's best and most influential games. Even if you haven't followed Geralt on his journey thus far, you can jump in and enjoy a terrific story and a lengthy RPG that isn't weighed down with frivolous side quests. For $15, you can pick up the Game of the Year edition that packs in the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine DLC expansions; the base game alone is $12.
