What You Can Expect To See On Xbox Consoles
Microsoft has finally revealed more footage of the exciting new games you can expect to play on the upcoming Xbox Series X. Featured on the first of its new series of monthly Xbox 20/20 streams were a diverse roster of games--some of which were newly announced during the event. Below you can find a roundup of all that was showcased, which included games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, Madden 21, Yakuza 7, and more. Aside from Bright Memory: Infinite, The Medium, and Scorn, it's worth noting that every game featured below can be played on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
One of the biggest details from the stream when it comes to these games is that many were confirmed to utilize Microsoft's Smart Delivery system. With this feature, any supported game you purchase can be played across either Xbox One or Xbox Series X, so you no longer need to worry about buying a newer generation version of a game if you already own an older version. For more details about which games support the service, check out our Smart Delivery games roundup explainer.
If you're curious about other Xbox Series X features, be sure to read up on what you can expect from the console's new dashboard, how it'll keep install sizes down, how its quick resume functionality will work, and more details about its powerful new architecture.
Bright Memory: Infinite
Bright Memory: Infinite is a first-person action game that emphasizes both fast-paced shooting and melee combat. Think if Titanfall 2 and Devil May Cry fused; this is what you would get. But you really have to see the game in action, as it's honestly impressive to see all the acrobatic sword-swinging and gunplay seamlessly working together as well as it does.
The trailer for the upcoming game showed a first-person perspective combat segment in the rain, followed by a brief driving sequence that didn't end well for the driver. If the intense action floored you, then it's worth noting that a single person under the name of FYQD-Studio is behind developing Bright Memory: Infinite. An early version of the game released on Steam this past March, but this new version seems to be more fleshed out.
Release Date: TBA (Won't Support Smart Delivery as it's only coming to Xbox Series X)
Dirt 5
Dirt 5 is looking to offer more diversity than previous games in the franchise with a broader range of cars, racetracks, and weather/season conditions. Also new this time is that Career mode gives you more choice about the event types you tackle as you climb up the ladder to sign with sponsors. There's also some recognizable voice talent helping to bring the mode to life with actors Troy Baker and Nolan North confirmed to appear. Lastly, if you're all about racing with friends, then know that Dirt 5 will support four-player split-screen across both career and arcade modes.
Release Date: TBA 2020 (Will Support Smart Delivery)
Scorn
Scorn is an upcoming adventure-horror game that seems inspired by the grotesque artistic stylings of H.R. Giger. According to developer Ebb, the game was designed around the idea of "being thrown into the world." In Scorn, you find yourself in a nightmarish world that's made up of several interconnected areas that you can explore in any order you want as each one has its own self-contained story and theme that contributes to the overall narrative. The game also takes on some Metroid-like elements, slowly giving you access to additional skills, weapons, and items that allow you to explore further and discover new areas.

Chorus
Chorus is a narrative-focused space-combat shooter where you play as an ex-cultist named Nara, an ace-pilot who flies a sentient starfighter. Haunted by a sinister force that speaks to her frequently, she embarks on a personal journey to destroy the dark cult that made her. The first trailer showcased some fast-paced ship combat and compelling visual storytelling.

Madden NFL 21
As part of the Inside Xbox briefing, Microsoft confirmed that EA's upcoming NFL game, Madden NFL 21, is coming to Xbox Series X. While we didn't get to see much in the way of gameplay, we did learn that you'll be able to upgrade to the Series X version of the game for free if you buy it on Xbox One--but you'll need to do so by a specific date. During the Inside Xbox Madden 21 segment, Patrick Mahomes, cover star of last year's entry, teased that more details about the game will be revealed "soon." We didn't get much more information beyond that, but Mahomes said this year's installment "isn't just about what you can see, it's about what you can feel."
Release Date: TBA 2020 (Will support free upgrades with its own Smart Delivery-like service)
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2
The stream gave another tease for the long-awaited first-person action-RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2. The new trailer showed all sorts of horrific sights, like a man dancing in a room full of suspended corpses, a first-person vampire bite, and supernatural vampiric powers. There was also a glimpse of the many supernatural vampiric powers you'll gain, as well as a look at some of the unique ways you can navigate the environment.
Although it's been confirmed that the game will be out on Xbox Series X, a release date for the game has still not been announced. It was initially slated to launch in the first quarter of this year, but publisher Paradox Interactive recently announced the title would have to be delayed to "late 2020."

Call of the Sea
Call of the Sea is a narrative-focused adventure game where you play as Norah, who is on a journey to find her missing husband on a remote island in the South Pacific during the 1930s. While exploring the island, you'll uncover the remains of a failed expedition, and ancient ruins that reveal the island's secrets. Taking cues from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Call of the Sea is an introspective story, focusing on the protagonist's time exploring the island while remembering moments from her past.

The Ascent
The Ascent is a cyberpunk action-RPG you can play alone or with up to three others either in local or online co-op. You play as a group of corporate fighters who must defend their district from rival corporations and crime syndicates. The trailer seems to emphasize hectic, yet tactical fast-paced shooting action.

The Medium
The Medium is the latest psychological horror game from Blair Witch and Observer developer Bloober Team. Set in Poland in the late '80s, you play as Marianne, a spiritual medium who is haunted by visions of a child's murder. To unravel the truth behind this tragedy, she travels to an abandoned hotel and searches for answers.
According to our interview with Bloober Team, the theme of The Medium is "duality." Marianne can see two worlds, the real one and the spirit one, and players will need to navigate both to discover the truth. Further reinforcing the theme, the game's soundtrack is a collaboration between Blooper Team's Arkadiusz Reikowski and Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka.
Release Date: TBA 2020 (Support Smart Delivery not yet confirmed--possibly due to the game only coming to Xbox Series X)
Scarlet Nexus
Scarlet Nexus is an upcoming action game from a team at Bandai Namco Studios led by developers who have worked on the Tales of series. It puts you in the role of Yuito Sumeragi, a psycho-kinetic trainee hoping to become an elite warrior. Inspired by one such elite who saved him as a child, he gets caught up in a mystery in the futuristic city of New Himuka.
The trailer alludes to enemies who have arrived in New Himuka that initially seem unstoppable. These creatures--amalgamations of monsters and bright floral arrangements--are only challenged by Sumeragi and the OSF, a team of similarly psycho-kinetic-powered fighters. The gameplay looks heavily inspired by the likes of Devil May Cry or numerous Platinum Games titles, with fast and frantic action. Your psycho-kinetic powers allow you to lift enemies, fling them around combat arenas, and more.
Release Date: TBA (Will Support Smart Delivery)
Second Extinction
Second Extinction is a cooperative first-person shooter where you and up to two other players hunt down mutant dinosaurs taking over the planet. The trailer showed a hostile snowy, post-apocalyptic Earth packed with mutant dinosaurs, being mowed down by soldiers with heavy weaponry. The tagline appropriately invites you to "reclaim Earth." Expect a lot of over-the-top cooperative action in this one.
Release Date: TBA (Will Support Smart Delivery)
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Microsoft confirmed during the stream that Yakuza: Like a Dragon (commonly referred to as Yakuza 7), is coming to Xbox Series X. The cult-favorite Sega franchise has been steadily making its way to Xbox and PC, so it was only a matter of time before the latest entry in the franchise would be confirmed to come along as well.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon launched in Japan earlier this year and has already been confirmed for PlayStation 4, but you can now expect it to be available on Xbox platforms. It may be the next game in the storied Yakuza franchise, but it's a fresh start for all players. With long-running series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu's story wrapped up, you'll now step into the shoes of Kasuga Ichiban, a former Yakuza member who comes back from jail to find that his gang abandoned him. And while the series has traditionally been a high-octane action game, Like A Dragon makes a shift to turn-based RPG gameplay.
Release Date: Xbox Series X Launch Title (Will Support Smart Delivery)
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Ubisoft debuted Assassin's Creed Valhalla late last month with a cinematic trailer but said we wouldn't have to wait long to see gameplay. The stream gave us a quick first look at the game running on an Xbox Series X during today's Inside Xbox presentation, and it's a beaut.
Set this time in the Viking age of history, the new Assassin's Creed game's trailer doesn't show much in the way of combat or exploration. Instead, it focuses on the locations you'll see and visit from the snowy landscapes of Norway to wartorn England. There's also additional scenes of Eivor wielding their hidden blade, sailing in longboats, leading a group of raiders into battle, and throwing dual axes into enemy Englishmen. Definitely give the trailer a watch if you haven't already.
