Westworld: The 16 Most Shocking Moments of Season 1 [SPOILERS] Friv 0

With the first season of HBO's Westworld coming to an end, we're all a bit stunned by how many twists and turns the series could fit into ten episodes. We're going back through the premiere season of the show to break down the most jaw-dropping moments Westworld had to offer.

Warning: Spoilers for Westworld coming up.

Dolores Hurts a Fly (Episode 1: "The Original")

By comparison, Dolores swatting a fly on her neck, at the end of Episode 1, may not seem like a startling revelation. However, this happens mere moments after she tells Ford she would never harm a living being. Once you've seen the whole series, you realize this moment is a turning point for her character.

Host Smashes Its Own Head With a Rock (Episode 3: "The Stray")

We've seen Hosts shoot and kill other Hosts by Episode 3, but we had yet to see a Host harm themselves. Elsie and Ashley investigate a Host that has been lost. They find him but are treated to the Host smashing its own head in with a boulder. We expected it to try and kill Elsie, and it was an exceptionally gory scene.

Bernard is a Host (Episode 7: "Trompe L'Oeil")

Bernard and Theresa headed to a house in Westworld that wasn't marked down on the map. However, behind a door, which Bernard couldn't see, Theresa discovers a room with plans for Hosts, and one of them was Bernard. This may have been one of the biggest shockers of the season, considering that Bernard was in charge of so much at the park.

Bernard Kills Theresa (Episode 7: "Trompe L'Oeil")

Right after Theresa finds out Bernard is a Host. Ford shows up and has Bernard kill her by smashing her head into the wall. We did not see that one coming. In a future episode, it was revealed that Bernard was the person who grabbed Elsie, who disappeared during an earlier episode, never to return.

Bernard's Look is Based on Arnold (Episode 9: "The Well-Tempered Clavier")

In Episode 6, Bernard sees a picture of Ford another man. We inferred that said man was Arnold, but later found out it was Ford's father, after seeing Ford's secret robot family. Later on, when it's revealed that Bernard is a Host, Ford shows him the same picture, but this time, Bernard is in it. We assumed Arnold was the man in the middle, but it turns out that Bernard's physical characteristics are based on Arnold.

Ford Forces Bernard to Kill Himself (Episode 9: "The Well-Tempered Clavier")

Bernard forces Ford to unlock all his past memories, by having a reformatted Clementine point a gun at Ford. He does so and Bernard's past is revealed. However, Ford still controls the Hosts, no matter how reworked their programming is, and Ford makes Bernard shoot himself in the head.

Teddy's Real History (Episode 9: "The Well-Tempered Clavier")

Teddy started off as mysterious stranger who had a connection to Dolores. As the episodes went on, we learned that he had a bloody shootout with a man named Wyatt. We learn during "The Well-Tempered Clavier" that Teddy was a sheriff, and he went on a shooting spree, killing everyone else in the town.

William Kills a Bunch of Hosts (Episode 9: "The Well-Tempered Clavier")

"White hat" William has been at Westworld for a bizarre bachelor party with his soon-to-be brother-in-law Logan. Their relationship had become a bit strained, and Logan became wrapped-up with a group of men who refuse to leave the war behind. Logan wakes up and sees the bodies of his companions scattered across the camp, and in the center of them is William. This moment felt like William's breaking-point.

The Man in Black is On the Board of Directors (Episode 9: "The Well-Tempered Clavier"/Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

During Episode 9, Charlotte finds the Man in Black in Westworld and needs his help in order to push Ford out. We learned that he owns shares and has invested a lot of money into the park, bailing it out, on one occasion. The next week, we find out that not only does he own a lot of shares, but he's actually the majority shareholder. Westworld is more than a vacation spot for him. It's a place he believes in.

The Location of The Maze (Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

The Man in Black has been searching for The Maze since the first episode, and in the season finale, he found it. However, The Maze isn't exactly what he thought it was. Dolores shows him the location of The Maze, which is a child's toy. The Maze isn't meant for guests, only hosts, as The Maze is a metaphor for consciousness for the robots. If they can find the center of The Maze, they can achieve consciousness and break free.

Dolores Kills Arnold/Dolores is Wyatt (Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

We learned a bit earlier in the season that Dolores was the person who killed Arnold. However, we don't know how it happened. In the season finale, we got to see just how and why this happened. Arnold uploaded the Wyatt narrative to Dolores in order to help him take down the park. In his final moments, Arnold sat down and had Dolores kill him. Arnold's plan didn't work as he thought it would, as the park still opened.

Samurai World (Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

While Maeve, Felix, Hector, and Armistice were on the run, they left Westworld and entered a door with a "SW" logo on it. Inside, are other Hosts, all dressed in samurai armor. They've entered Samurai World, so does that mean their are other worlds as well? In the original movie, there was also a Roman World and a Medieval World (Let's ignore Future World for now). Could they also be a part of this park?

Maeve's Escape is Part of Her Narrative (Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

Maeve's escape from Westworld has been an exciting late-in-the-season story. However, it's not all that it seems as Maeve finds out her want and need to escape from the park is a part of her new narrative. Someone broke into her code and changed it. She's been programmed to want to leave the park and to recruit other Hosts.

William is The Man in Black (Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

If you somehow avoided all the conspiracy theories online, which all pointed to William being the younger version of the Man in Black, you're lucky. While the Man in Black confronts Dolores and tries to figure out more about The Maze, she says the love of her life will save her: William. It's quickly revealed that the Man in Black is William, and he's changed over the years.

There Are Multiple Timelines (Season-Long/Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

Throughout the season, there was a lot of disconnect between scenes. Early on, many people theorized that the show was covering multiple timelines, and they were right. Each timeline revolves around Dolores' story, as she is the second-oldest Host in the park

Timeline 1: Dolores and Arnold before the park opens. Takes place 35 years in the past.

Timeline 2: William and Dolores' journey. Note that the original town's Timeline 1 takes place in is buried. Takes place approximately 30 years ago.

Timeline 3: The Man in Black searches for The Maze. The original town has been dug up for Ford's new narrative, "Journey into Night."

Dolores Kills Ford (Episode 10: "The Bicameral Mind")

Finally, one of the craziest moments from the season came during the final moments of the episode. Dolores found the center of The Maze and during Ford's retirement speech, where he also announced his new narrative. Dolores approached Teddy and told him that the world belongs to them now. Dolores walked up behind Ford and shot him in the back of the head. She then proceeded to shoot all the humans at the party.
